’22 Simmie Colson Classic “Intangibles”  WNBA Division

MADISON BORJAS

So many times people get hooked up on numbers, “lies, damn lies, and statistics ” was coined by an even more famous SC and I have said countless times I know players that averaged, 30, 40 even 50 ppg that did absolutely nothing in college and as always, that goes over the heads of many yet I also talked about this college coach walking out of my daughter’s game in the 8th grade after she missed a couple of shots playing in 17U Division, the same one she played in in the 7th grade yet to my amazement, that same coach called asking for her soon to be HS coaches information because she was coming to my daughter’s practice and offering her a scholarship. I responded, “coach, she missed a couple of shots and you left” and her response was “yes but she had 3 steals, 3 assists, was vocal on the court, and just had so many INTANGIBLES” she also told me “Mr. Colson, it only takes me a couple of minutes to know a PLAYER” and after that, my views shifted and it has helped me become a very good analyzer of talent because it truly is more than scoring

OLIVIA WALKER

Raquel Hawk-IJU 17U [2023]

Just has so many #THROWBACK qualities like sacrificing her body to take charges or dive on the floor for loose balls, those things as well as setting the right pick all can b=change the momentum yet she also can finish around the basket after contact, rebound and defend

Ti’Ye Davis-TNBA 17U [2023]

Athletic guard that loves to apply heat and her “on the ball” defense has definitely been a bright spot for her team. She also handles the ball under pressure, she sees the floor and she can score and finish, or dish, off the dribble

Olivia Walker-Just Play Elite 17U Gold [2023]

Yeah I put a picture up of her dropping the midrange jumper, pull up is sweet but her “playing the passing lane” is sweet as well however let mot not overload the Stevia because she mixes it up well, plays within herself, and can get hers in the flow

Gabrielle Painter-Just Play Elite16U Gold [2024]

Scores off the jumper, off the dribble, check and double-check yet her court vision and creating for her teammates is definitely huge because she can have them in positions for gimmes

Gianna Gentry-TNBA 16U [2024]

Another athletic guard that applies solid pressure on the ball, yeah that creates turnovers, apple is my favorite yet an apple a day won’t keep her from being vocal on the court, directing traffic, and making good decisions on who to get the ball to

Lauren Johnson-Uptempo Sports [2024]

Long and athletic will ALWAYS be the base, I repeat that over and over because being repetitious, okay repetitive is what this era needs and her playing the passing lane is also needed as it just irks me when players don’t do it yet she also has good timing, scores around the basket and rebounds

Kai Stratton-Infinity Black [2025]

Also long and athletic, see above, with pretty good timing to block, alter, and (or) deflect shots yet she understands how and when to switch as well as trap, she creates her shot for the jumper or off the dribble

Taiya Kiklunga- Houston Lady Nets 2025

Long and athletic, see above the above as she goes above where she started and progression is definitely big as well as an INTANGIBLE. Her upside is very good, she finishes strongly, after contact and she did a good job crashing the boards and blocking shots

Madison Borjas- Lady Diamonds [2025]

I love how she blends in a then BAM, 4 or 5 three pointers in a row and I have seen her win so many games at the buzzer before she entered high school, yeah #sizedontamtter when you can play so she also understands how to do the little things, play the passing lane pretty darn good and seeing the floor, her no-looks have me going but also her quick hands and solid BB-IQ
