2027 Maddie Vickery Getting National Attention
I traveled to Arkansas almost a year ago to cover the Border War event and it’s always good for me to catch players from other regions. Being a REAL EVALUATOR, it doesn’t take me long to realize what I’m looking at and several younger players just grabbed me, including Maddie Vickery. She made my Tip Sheet from that event and I mentioned her last name rhymed with VICTORY and the more I saw her, the more prophetic that saying would become
She’s one of those players that can take over a game on either end, that’s special. By that, her being “long and athletic” which will always be the base, has so many intangible like her timing as she comes out of nowhere to block shots yet she also elevates to do so when challenged. Her interior defense is solid yet she can step outside of the paint and apply “on-the-ball” pressure and when you factor in she understands positioning and goes after everything off the rim, I love it when players show things you can’t teach, especially early in their career
Her jumper was also smooth, she elevated over the defender and released it with ease but it was the way she did it, in the flow as she created her shot under pressure on broken plays or plays which weren’t called for her yet her performance at my All Eyez On Me Individual Showcase in Round Rock Texas, named one of the TOP PERFORMERS, she stopped by on her way to making some unofficial visits and picking up offers, just showed me even more
