2024 Kiana Henning turning corners at Cornerstone

I had a chance to catch some talented players at Alamo City Hoops #ThanksgivingThrowdown and one thing I have been saying since I got tired of complaining about the national media overlooking Texas over 15 years ago is that Talent Is Everywhere, if you know what you’re looking at. Many people consider themselves knowledgeable yet what I have seen is that quite a few have “tunnel vision” which is why, one more time, I am a REAL EVALUATOR.

Looking at points scored is meaningless in the finding of next-level players more times than not, again I know of players that averaged 30, 40, and even 50 PPG in high school that panned out in college, after being blown up by that same national media back in the day, yet when you have no agenda, like me, you look for pieces to someone’s puzzle

Cornerstone had a huge piece for somewhere at the next level in Kiana Henning, a talented junior guard who brought heat defensively against one of the top schools in Texas. I love to see players who play within themselves and understand how to get theirs “in the flow” but when you add players who fall into that “never takes a play-off” no matter what the score is, that’s huge because that falls into yet another category, consistency

Henning used her athleticism from the guard spot on both ends, her “on the ball” pressure definitely stood out, and so did her going after loose balls including playing the passing lane. She also handled the ball and saw the floor well, both under pressure, plus she scored off the dribble while showing me she could also create her shot from the outside. I found out she wants to study forensic science in college, I definitely get that because she showed me on the court she could break things down and figure them out

I’ll get a chance to bring you more about her and I’ll be dropping articles from the Thanksgiving Throwdown right here on this link. so stay tuned
