2022 Summer Slam Day 1 HS Elite Tip Sheet

AVARI BERRY

Had a chance to catch some of the top players from various classes in Texas at the Houston Summer Slam. I’ll be mixing it up a bit as far as the evals starting with Top Performers in the Elite Division, from both days followed by standout guards, forwards and defenders so stay tuned, maybe even shooters because it was an abundance of them as well

Avari Berry (Austin Elite) 2023 how can I say this, she did what point guards do, control the tempo, take over when needed as well as directed traffic, and was vocal on the court but to SIM it up, she made those around her better. Her acrobatic finishes were captured by me in shaky videos yet it was her shaking the defender off the dribble as well as dropping the mid to long-range but that court vision coupled with “on the money passes” JUST DID IT FOR ME

Shalayne Morgan (Houston United 832) 2023– put on one of the best offensive performances I have seen all season as she was “in the zone” scoring at WILL from anywhere from the outside and showing no GRACE attacking and finishing acrobatically. Actually, she did show grace, as in gracefully playing the passing lane and scoring after the steal yet her “on the ball” defense as well as rebounding on both ends was pretty impressive

SANIYA BURKS

Nicolette Polocheck (Just Play Elite 17U Gold) 2024 – dominant with a capital D is what she was in the interior as she literally scored with players hanging on her. She goes after everything off the rim on both ends and has a knack for being in the right place at the right time yet her finishes with either hand around the basket were nice, so was her facing the basket and dropping the midrange jumper and let me not omit her defense, also with a capital D

Saniya Burks (Truth Platinum) 2024– new team, same explosive game, and when you can score in droves like she can, at the blink of an eye, well that’s something special yet DON’T BLINK because you may miss something other than her gravity-defying layups off the dribble, yes after contact is included, but her ability to not only see the floor and make pinpoint passes threading the needle is always a plus, so is her on the ball defense and yes, mid to long-range, count it

Heather Baymon (Houston United Chuck) 2024– one of the most explosive guards off the dribble is back and in a huge way as her terrorizing defense creates turnovers galore but she reads the plays nicely, plays the passing lane, and has SWB, speed with the ball, but she’s always under control, finished very well after contact and showed that stop and pop I ave enjoyed watching her drop since elementary school

RILEIGH HAIRSTON

Olivia Sauvageau (Just Play Elite 16U Gold) her ability to control her team has simply taken off this season, well so has her game as she “poise under pressure” as well as her delivering under that same pressure had me smiling. She makes tough passes look easy, she scored with the jumper, mid to long-range as well as attacking the basket and finishing with either hand yet she’s become more vocal on the court which is another huge plus

Rileigh Hairston (Houston Lady Roadrunners) 2025 long and athletic is and will always be the base that I use and watching her on the court picking right back up from where she left off tells me a lot about her as well as what’s coming. It’s not a comeback, a minor setback meant nothing, she scores off the dribble and elevates on her jumper to drop it yet she also elevates to block shots and rebound

Aminah Dixon (IJU 17U) 2025– smoothly taking her game to yet another level as I watch how patient she is setting the defender up yet playing within yourself has always been something I watched from players and she can silently fill it up quickly by scoring from outside as well as attacking and finishing yet her defense is nothing short of smothering, and she plays the passing lane
