2022 NTX Tarheels send message #SummerEliteShowcase
LEWISVILLE , Texas-I’ve been watching and playing close attention to girls basketball since the turn of the century and watched so many changes that it’s mind-boggling at times but the one thing that remains constant is that there has and always be talented players in Texas so it’s always good to see an ensemble excel at the highest level very young and by excelling, it’s not always about the wins and losses but sending messages and winning when it truly means something so watching the 2022 NTX Tarheels and seeing coaches Daryl Horton and Robert Wright on the sideline, these two are simply living legends from the area who’s offspring went on to play D1 ball, simply gave me a definite breath of fresh air
An impressive frontline of Amiya Muhammad and Sa’Myah Smith , both 6’2, Hadley Periman, 6’1 and Ashia McSwain, just under 6’0 sort of tells you the story however the story starts to turn into a book when you add 6’4 Tionna Herron. Muhammad changes shots, defends and finishes plus her upside is huge, Smith is just so powerful, also nowhere near finishes product, Periman’s versatility of scoring inside or outside while McSwain relishes the contact, as in give and takes and finishes with players hanging on her truly adds to the story of this squad and Herron by the way, made Prime Time’s Summer Elite Showcase Tip Sheet
While I’m talking about the story turning into a book, let’s make it a novel because this squad brings back memories of the MS bunch of Houston Hoops and Cy Fair Texans which had alumni from the area’s greatest ensemble, the Class of 2005, and more recently 2012 DFW Elite group so always remember the game starts at the one, no matter what anyone says and with several players capable of playing combo, Michayla Gatewood just gets and gives it. She never takes a play off, runs a squad and can take over and score in droves if needed. Myka Perry could always shoot, she’s hard to contain as she has added so many offensive weapons and with her size, all bets are off. Jiya Perry’s athleticism and energy can turn a game around almost instantaneously, defends and scores but the team is full of athleticism, some on the verge of adding ULTRA in front and JaMia Harris is one of them as she creates and scores effortlessly
