2022 Hoop 10-GPR Camp HS Division
Talent is everywhere and in West Texas, it is abundant with hidden gems. I covered the Hoop 10 Camp remotely to catch some stars of the future as well as countless players showing next-level potential. Here are some of the standouts from the high school divisions I caught during the skill sessions, I’ll drop a few standouts from the games on Prep Girls Hoops Texas
2023
Sara Casner-5’7 G/F (Silverton)
Casner is one of the toughest players I have seen, she just doesn’t back down, and watching her outrebound taller players over and over has been a joy, she also scores on putbacks. She creates her shot to drop the jumper as well as attack the basket off the dribble with either hand and score the same way, with either hand, after contact included
Braelyn Sellers-5’5 PG (Pampa)
Sellers creates her shot under pressure and her deceptive first step helps get the defender off balance for her to attack and finish, yes after contact. She did a good job drawing contact, she also handled the ball under pressure and made good decisions to hit teammates on the money. On top of her court vision, she understands how to control the tempo
Jadyn Trusler-5’8 SG (Dalhart)
Trusler plays bigger than her size, she understands positioning and she has solid “hands and footwork” so let me drop a hashtag, #THROWBACK. She smoothly scores around the basket, and on putbacks as well, yes she rebounds on both ends and she runs the floor, on both ends. I also enjoy her interior defense as she did a good job containing her man
Shandria Thomas-5’7 SF (River Road)
Thomas was relentless on the boards and watching her go after everything off of the rim had me smiling so much, I kept rewinding the video. She also showed she could handle the ball from the wing, she did a good job attacking the basket from multiple spots and finished strongly, a few times with players literally hanging on her. She also dropped the short jumper
2024
Audrey Threet-5’9 W (River Road)
Threet used her body well around the basket, on both ends. She did a good job not only rebounding but going after the ball off the rim, I love that, and she did it on both ends of the court. She also has good “hands and footwork” and I’m dropping #THROWBACK again because I don’t see enough of that. She finished strongly and dropped the midrange consistently
Jaydan Bagwell-5’6 CG (Valley)
Bagwell smoothly creates her shot and drops it from wherever she wants. She falls into that “unlimited range” category because she needs to be picked up as soon as she steps across midcourt. She drops it off screens, she drops it in transition and even showed the stop and pop while the defender had a hand in her face. Just for fun, she showed the “catch and shoot”
Taylor Wallace-5’10 PF (Plainview)
Wallace was one of the best attackers at the event, both in the skills as well as the games. Her first step set everything up and since she got to the basket using either hand, she also showed she could finish after contact with either. Her pull-up jumper came in handy because the defender couldn’t give her too much room and let me also add she rebounded on both ends
Azaela Alaniz-5’5 CG (Hereford)
Alaniz has so much going for her as she just can do quite a few things. I love that she understands how to get hers in the flow, but she also knows when to take over games. She wants the ball in the clutch and she can either hit the huge bucket from outside or do the same after attacking the basket. Even better, she understands how to set her teammates up for easy baskets
Azaylee Santos-5’4 PG (Floydada)
Santos smoothly does things almost effortlessly and watching her rebound and go coast to coast to either score or throw “on the money passes” always makes me giggle. She rebounds on both ends, and even scores against taller players on putbacks but she understands how to run a team, she can score in the set both off the dribble and with the jumper and she sees the floor well
2025
Caitlin Hull-5’2 PG (Christ The King)
Hull falls into a category I hashtagged over a decade ago, #sizedontmatter and it doesn’t when you can play, she can play. Pressure is irrelevant, she reads the defense and understands how to avoid traps and double teams yet she also understands how to run a team. Solid court vision as well as the ability to score and (or) dish off the dribble, plus she can score from outside
2026
Rylee Danley-5’6 G (Seminole)
Danley was one of the best at showing “creativity” in a variety of situations and whether it was her head fakes or using her first step, she showed she could capitalize and show her ballhandling to attack the basket. She scored multiple times off the dribble but her pull-up jumper was more than effective, especially when she understood how to get to her spot and drop the midrange
Braya Smith-5’10 F (Amarillo)
Smith falls into that “long and athletic ” category I talk about over and over and yes, that is the base. Let me also add she has a “scary upside” as I didn’t realize what class she was in. She attacks the basket relentlessly and uses good body control to finish, sometimes acrobatically but she also did a good job showing me she could drop the jumper. Solid rebounder and defender
Emerson Plummer-5’10 P/W (Tascosa)
Plummer has some very nice upside, factoring in her size and skillset and I’m just SMH already. She’s heady, understands positioning, and can score multiple ways around the basket including facing it. She also dropped a few midrange jumpers and attacked from the wing. I also enjoyed her “battling” for boards, yeah she scored on putbacks with either hand and she defended
Zariah Strickland-5’6 F/G (Texhoma)
Strickland has improved from a few months ago and her first step was creating some problems. Well so was her “on the ball ” defense which was smothering at times but watching her score both off the dribble and on the pull-up, with a hand in her face, JUST DID IT for me. She also showed me the “step back” which was nice but her playing the passing lane was nice
Zyliah Strickland-5’6 PG/SF (Texhoma)
Stricklan, like her twin sister, has added a little something extra, and let me drop this on you, “she’s a nightmare to defend in the open court”. Her crossover had me grabbing an aspirin while watching the video, yet it was so smooth I kept rewinding it. She understands how to set the defender up with her first step and head fakes and she scored with ease off the dribble and from mid to long-range
Arrisa Alaniz-5’5 CG (Hereford)
Alaniz has what you call “a ceiling with no roof”. Her knowledge of the game is ahead of her years, she plays within herself yet she understands how and when to take a game over. She sees the floor and her blistering passes in traffic give her teammates good looks yet she also does a good job setting the defender up to score multiple ways, including mid to DEEP, as well as scoring off the dribble with acrobatic finishes
