2021 TJ Showcase- Robert Rice Division Tip Sheet

LANIE DOUGET

I love when I hear people say they do their homework and I usually respond “Columbus discovered America” which many don’t get yet it all depends on the textbook is the information you’re getting. Quick background on Tyrone Johnson and Jene Carter can be found right here but let me go deeper into who Robert Rice was. He was a longtime coach for the Waco Lady Panthers and spent countless years not only helping DEVELOP players as well assisting in finding spots at the next level for them. He passed a few years ago, totally caught me by surprise but he was truly a kind man and he owned damn every pair of Jordans they made and there you have it, many of you “in one ear, out of another” but I gave it to you

2021

Lanie Douget -G (SA Islanders)– she’s one of those “heady” players that can make things happen to change the momentum yet she also comes up huge in the clutch, on both ends of the court, the jumper, attacking, or even defending including playing the passing lane

Shakera Duncan (Houston United Hoops 17U) attacks strongly, finishes the same way but it doesn’t stop there as her aggressive defense leads to turnovers, she rebounds and she plays the passing lane

2022

Karinna Ortiz-G (SA Islanders) left me somewhat speechless at her offensive skillset when I made a road trip to catch her, this led to her being added to PGH Top 100 but she’s shown me even more as her poise, her ability to take games over or even facilitate

Maleigha Jackson (Houston United Hoops 17U Black) rebounds well on both ends, has good hands and footwork, and finishes after contact yet she also does a good job defending both in and outside the paint

Aryana Cleveland-5’8 SF (SA Lady Hoops Green) Veteran’s Memorial HS-relentless is one word that I can use every time I see her because she goes after everything off the rim and when you have athleticism and UPS, that’s pretty cool yet her MINDSET is what makes it work as she finishes with either hand after contact and blocks a lot of shots

Trinity Barretto-5’5 G (SA Lady Hoops Green) turned a corner like she turned angles attacking the rim and her finishes were very nice, some off-balanced yet under control but she also showed the pull-up jumper as well as good court vision

ANIYAH SANFORD & REBECCA MEYER

2023

Viviana Moreno (SA Islanders) continues to elevate her game as she elevates on her jumper and that’s pretty good as she sets defenders up smoothly to get to her various spots and knock shots down yet her court vision is more than adequate

Aniyah Sanford-5’3 PG (Houston United 2023 Gold) Langham Creek HS– the hashtag #sizedontmatter when you can play says it all and watching her for what seems like forever tears me up to see what she has become right in front of me. She understands how to run a team, she’s unselfish, hits teammates on the money yet she continues to show she can score multiple ways yet she’s become more explosive, a huge plus

Eryn Lloyd-5’4 CG (Houston United 2023 Gold) Langham Creek HS– definitely one of the top defensive guards in her class in the state, trust me yet she has taken her offense to another level and is scoring with confidence attacking the rim with a nice first step and good body control but the outside shot is working too

Rebecca Meyer-5’11 SF (Houston United 2023 Gold) Klein Cain HS-the jump from just last weekend is impressive as she stands an inch below “the magic number” yet at #TJShowcase she played bigger than 6’0 on both ends with solid defense and rebounding as well as scoring on putbacks and attacking the basket

Ny’Kyiah Jeffery–5’8 SF (Houston United 2023 Gold) Cy Ranch HS-she’s so athletic and HUNGRY, another thing you can’t teach as she wants to keep getting better by using that “you won’t outwork me” mindset, so seeing her outrebound players over “the magic number” as well as score over those same players makes me smile

Reagan Pavesi-G (Phoenix Black) Vista Ridge HS– put on one of the best individual offensive performances in the event, she understands one very important thing and that’s “she finds ways to put the ball in the basket” as she attacked and scored with either hand, showed a nice pull-up jumper from mid to long range and she even scored on putbacks

2024

Maesyn Gray-5’11 PF (Next Level) Burnett HS– nice hands and footwork are always a plus, you keep adding when you can finish and she definitely finishes strong after contact but she also rebounds and has good timing to block, alter and (or) deflect shots

Lexie Edwards-6’3 P (Next Level) Marble Falls HS-75 inches with plenty of upsides is how I’ll bring it to you. She does a lot of things well, in fact, she does many things instinctively and with her age, she is going to create some issues

Joemoriah Bob (Houston United Hoops 17U Black) she’s turned enough corners to be added to the PGH Top 100 next update and her ability to run a team has just shot up, yet she also can shoot the ball consistently from outside as well as take defenders off the dribble with either hand

2025

Katelin Seymour-5’9 SF (Texas Lady Breakers Silver) Clear Brook HS-long and athletic, you know I love that because it’s the base and her eagerness shows on the court, she’s under control, does a good job attacking and finishing as well as defending with some pretty impressive upside
