2021 TJ Showcase-Doris Miller Division Tip Sheet
I had a chance to catch 6 of the 8 teams in this division, yet I got a grasp on some talented players with next-level potential or locks for some level of the next level
2022
Madison Mascorro-5’10 F ( Katy Crush 16U) Cinco Ranch HS-good size and mobility combined with agility is a nice way to start off as she rebounds on both ends of the court yet can create off the dribble, attack strongly and after contact, she can finish
Daphne Johnson (CTX Lady Knights 17U Girls) -created her shot consistently under pressure to either attack the basket and finish, after contact, or make the pass yet her court vision stood out in the open court as well. She also showed she could knock down the jumper
Ellie Corbett ‘6’0 F (Fierce)-good size and agility, nice hands and footwork around the basket, showed she could finish with either hand as well as face the basket and score. She also rebounded strongly and played solid defense, plus she has good upside
Isabelle Brown-5’9 F (RR Lady Warriors) Westwood HS– one of those “you won’t outwork me” types of players and when you have that mindset and desire, I drop the #THROWBACK because she battled and rebounded against taller players and had numerous putbacks against them
2023
Micah Elegores-5’6 PG (Katy Crush 16U) Katy Taylor HS-sold me before high school and I have enjoyed watching her emerge as one of the top PG’s in the state, not just Houston because she’s heady, can run a team, makes on the money passes yet she can score off the dribble as well as mid to long-range
Laney Lyle-5’6 SG (Katy Crush 16U) Cy Fair HS-scored so well in the flow multiple ways which made her a definite threat as she creates her shot for the pull-up jumper yet can also attack and finish but that “floata” is looking very nice as she dropped it numerous times
2024
Jaide Harris-6’4 PF (Houston Hoops United 16U) Hastings HS-long and athletic with very good timing to block, alter or deflect shots plus she rebounds well on both ends of the floor. She also defends well, in or out of the paint, and finishes after contact, good upside
Veronica Lopez (CTX Lady Knights 17U Girls) creates her shot very well and knocks the midrange down consistently and when you can drop it with a hand in your face, playing up, that’s a big plus yet so is her upside
Taylor Ross-6’0 F (SA Lady Hoops Silver 17U) has shown me enough to be added to PGH Top 100, I don’t even take notes anymore, well written but she’s long and very athletic, extends on a layup when she attacks yet has excellent timing to REJECT shots plus her rebounding and defense
Miranda Garcia-5’6 G (SA Lady Hoops Silver) one of many long-ball threats on the club, it seems like every time I passed her court she dropping the long ball, multiple ways, so the pull-up in transition, coming off a screen and one of my favorites, “catch and shoot” just had me smiling
Sincere Jackson (SA Lady Hoops Silver) I’m all about progression and the strides she’s making in a short time have not gone unnoticed yet her athleticism is where it starts and her “wanting it’ is where it will take her as she’s rebounding and finishing consistently
