2021 I-35 Showcase (San Antonio) 2022 Tip Sheet

CLARA ARROYOS

Clara Arroyos-5’8 G watching her create her shot and nail it has been fun for me all season, this event was no different as that picture-perfect jumper was on yet again but so was her taking defenders off the dribble and finishing after contact. She also saw the floor, made good decisions and did what I love to see, played the passing lane

Catarina Contreras-6’2 C watching her dive on the floor stood out as much as her 74 inches when she stood up but her agility around the basket as well as her ability to finish was nice, she understands how to use her body, she rebounded on both ends of the court, ran the floor and played defense, inside and outside the paint

Aubree Davidson-5’5 G did a good job of getting to the basket as she attacked it strongly and finished, this includes after contact and it was in game situation. She also showed a nice pull-up jumper from midrange which she created under pressure and she played the passing lane a few times while handling the ball in the open court afterward

Analise Guerrero-5’3 G showed early in the 1 on 1 drill that you probably don’t want to give her much room and that continues to the 5 on 5 where her range was among the best all weekend. She was consistent, didn’t force her shot, and created it, which also enabled her to attack the basket and finish but she also handled the ball under pressure and saw the floor

Gianna Hernandez-5’5 G always plays within herself and understands how to get hers in the flow yet she’s heady and makes good decisions but her ability to do things that don’t necessarily show up on a score or stat sheet gives you an idea of how she contributes. Yeah, she can score off the dribble or hit the jumper yet she looks for the best opportunity and she rebounds

Kayla Herrera-5’5 G when I don’t take notes, that should tell you something as I watch her just add something every time I watch her yet her body control is second to none in Texas. She defies gravity very well, her off-balance finishes make her an “and one” waiting to happen because she can take the lick. She also can drop the mid to long-range as well as handle the ball and see the floor

Kaylee Lopez-5’8 G came out playing “on the ball” defense and seemed to get a kick out of it because she understood how to switch and had good hands to come up with steals as well as help create turnovers but on the flip, she showed that she could create her shot under that same pressure and score off the dribble or with the jumper

Michaela  Luera-5’3 G created her shot in both the 1 on 1 drill and in the 5 on 5 games, both under pressure so watching her take the defender off the dribble to finish was nice but so was watching her dish it off for an assist. She also showed she could hit the outside shot, handle the ball, see the floor in transition as well as control the tempo

Belicia Martinez-5’6 G smoothly getting it done is why I added her to that initial Watch List I did for Prep Girls Hoops and at the Showcase, it would be easier to say what she didn’t do as she put on a show either attacking and finishing, this includes the “FLOATA” as well as handling the ball in traffic zipping passes for assists plus the mid to long-range was definitely on

TAMIA MOODY

Tamia Moody-5’8 G creates her shot under pressure and uses that to her advantage with a deceptive first step, she can attack the basket with either hand and finish yet that same creating under pressure allows her to her shot off and she showed she could knock it down from outside. I also enjoyed watching her defense as much as she enjoyed playing it

Ileana Morales-5’2 G so when I write “dazzling handles” that should give you an idea yet it also helps when you have good court vision, she does, and can get the ball to the right people, she did but she also mixed up by creating her shot under pressure to attack the basket, attack, and dish or just keep the defender honest by draining the pull-up

Tse Nizhoni Morgan-6’0 C is one of the most improved “BIGS” I have seen from their freshman season to now, that in itself speaks volumes about her work ethic and desire to get better so she has become more than a back to the basket player, she can hit the midrange, she can attack off the dribble and finish after contact, well throw putbacks and good hands and footwork as well to finish after contact

Abby Parra-5’6 G showed me the step back in the 1 on 1 drill and showed she could create her shot as well, well she also did it in the 5 on 5 to take the defender off the dribble or drop that pull-up jumper but watching her handle the ball and see the floor was a big plus as she threw crisp passes on the money, many times in traffic

Victoria  Perez-5’5 G showed me she could take defenders off the dribble and nail the pull-up in the 1 on 1 so I’m thinking, what else you got and she immediately throws a full-court touchdown to start games off with an assist. She handles the ball and sees the floor well, plus she was consistently shooting the long ball yet watching her play the passing lane…

Jailyn Potts-5’8 G showed she could do what I love seeing and that’s knock down the midrange but importantly, college coaches also love it and they give scholarships so yes, she can create her shot and hit it, as well come off a screen and drop it but she also showed she could take the defender off the dribble and finish

Vivian Villa-5’9 SF uses her body well to get positioning for rebounds, which she did on both ends of the court, even got some putbacks but I was taken aback watching her shoot the ball. She picks the defender apart to get off her shot, she knocked the midrange early and closed it out with some deep threes, in front of me
