2020 TJ Showcase Tip Sheet

'20 TJ Showcase

ROUND ROCK, Texas- This has been an interesting season with everything that’s going on yet the TJ Showcase definitely brightened my day as I saw an abundance of talent, many I hadn’t seen or seen enough of and I was overjoyed at what’s coming up in the state. Here are some of the many standouts I observed walking over 20K steps on that awesome Saturday

2021

Lashiyah Fowler (AD Elite Peterson) Pflugerville Connaly HS

Fowler can score off the dribble, creates her shot under pressure, and can knock down the mid to long-range jumper plus she defends well and plays the passing lane

Da’Mya Derby-PG (AD Elite Peterson) Pflugerville HS

Derby makes the team go; she handles the ball under pressure and hits teammates on the money but she can just explode off the dribble to attack the rim

Tajanna White (AD Elite Peterson) Cedar Ridge HS

White is one of the most powerful players in the state. She has a college-ready body, finishes with contact, rebounds on both ends, and defends

Zoe Nelson-6’1 W (Austin Elite RFW) Hendrickson HS

Nelson can play all 5 positions, well, yet her desire to want to ball in clutch situations continues to impress as she has learned how to put her team on her back. Shoots the mid to long and attacks rim, defends and rebounds

Jazra Williams-5’11 F (Austin Elite RFW) Vista Ridge HS

Williams has shown progression every year since I first saw her and going from mainly a solid defender to a player that can score multiple ways has been refreshing. Strong body, attacks the rim hard, mid to long is sold and she rebounds well

Lily Guerava-5’10 W/F (Austin Elite RFW) Hays HS

Guerava was one of my pleasant surprises this summer as she showed me she could score in droves earlier in the season, that’s attacking the basket as well as from the outside yet she can also get hers in the flow but watching her create her shot and nail it has been nice

Aja Holmes-6’0 P (Austin Elite RFW) Luling HS

Holmes has always been a strong and powerful rebounder that did a good job inside the paint, defending and scoring yet she’s added some nice moves, including a spin that she can finish with either hand plus she can score facing the basket

Daisy Rodriguez (DC Queens Centex) Whitney HS

Rodriguez creates her shot with ease and watching her elevate over defenders for the midrange over and oversold me a long time ago yet her range has gotten deeper as well as improved “catch and shoot”

Valerie Panuco (DC Queens Centex) Whitney HS

Panuco does so many things that don’t show up on a stat sheet like diving after loose balls, setting solid screens, or making a pass that leads to the assist but her defense is solid and she can score as well, especially in the flow

Precious Daily (DC Queens Centex) Mexia HS

Daily has been impressing me since she was in elementary school with her ability to push the ball, her ability to score, and her defense and she still impresses me because she applies so much heat on both ends that she makes things happen

Taylor Jackson-6’1 P (Houston Skyrise Elite Edmond) Cy Creek HS

Jackson continues to improve and elevate her game, finishes with either hand in the paint, with contact, battles for the boards on both ends

Trannon Izworski-5’11 SG/SF (DC Queens SA 17U)

Izworski was unknown to me but she immediately showed me a lot like battling on the boards, she doesn’t give up and playing the passing lane but she’s long and athletic, can handle the ball, and has a nice spin move

Kayla Presley-5’6 G (DBK Premier) San Marcos HS

Presley just impresses me no matter what the setting is as she “guest played” but more importantly she “just played” and her explosiveness was in full view, off the dribble or that jumper

Angie Cisneros-5’1 G (DBK Premier) New Braunfels HS

Cisneros was on fire and showed she was one of the best long ball shooters at the event. She creates her shot and also showed she could get to the rim

Ashlyn Jones-6’0 W (Houston Skyrise Elite Edmond) Klein Oak HS

Jones is a Louisiana Lafayette commit as well as one of the top players in the state but her ability to score, either from mid to long-range, elevating over defenders or defying gravity attacking the basket, she just impresses me over and over

Abby Lebherz-(Texas Hoops Blue Varsity)

Lebherz uses her body well, finishes strong, and rebounds on both ends of the court. She’s mobile and agile enough to step out of paint and play defense

Sheila Lee-6’1 C (Journey 17U)

Lee has the size, she’s over the magic number of 6’0 and with good hands and footwork, she made her presence felt offensively but she also rebounds on both ends

Lauren Woodard-5’11 F (Journey 17U)

Woodard finishes strongly and add after the lick. She’s athletic, understands how to take defenders from various angles

Ashley Corpus-5’8 G (San Antonio Lady Hoops 2021) Southwest Legacy HS

Corpus is one of the best long ball shooters in the state yet she’s also one of the best “clutch performers” I’ve seen in the state and remember, I cover a lot of ground but she covers more as she attacks the rim and creates her shot

Imagin Flores-5’3 G (San Antonio Lady Hoops 2021) Warren HS

Flores is one of many in the organization that can shoot the three and watching her show she can create off the dribble and shoot it as well as “catch and shoot” it over and over

Shayla Dede-5’t G (San Antonio Lady Hoops 2021) Taft HS

Dede made a huge splash at the event attacking the basket relentlessly for baskets as well as showing a solid stop and pop jumper. She defends and also rebounds well for her size

Tianna Mathis-5’7 PG (Lady Thunder 17U) Rudder HS

Mathis BB-IQ always impressed me, she understands how to run a team, control tempo, and get others involved but she can play multiple positions and score more ways than I can write, defends and rebounds

Gabrielle Huetter-5’10 SG/SF (Lady Thunder 17U) Magnolia HS

Huetter has just exploded this season, no I had not seen her before and yes, I was impressed the first time I did because she can flat out shoot the ball mid to long-range and I love big guards that can shoot it but more importantly, college coaches do as well. She plays the passing lane and plays within herself but creating her shot and hitting clutch baskets has been the norm

2022

Kierra Hamilton (AD Elite Future 16U) Cedar Ridge HS

Hamilton attacks the basket strong, finishes the same way, and also showed she could handle the ball under pressure

Jamyria Ramsey-5’5 PG (Austin Elite RFW) Weiss HS

Ramsey is a heady PG that can just take over a game in so many ways including the mid to long-range or using her speed to leave defenders cemented. Her passing and ballhandling have always been good yet it’s even better, under pressure

Kaila Hamilton-6’0 P (Austin Elite ICE) Hendrickson HS

Hamilton does a good job in the paint with that “you won’t outwork me” mindset but she also showed how powerful she is attacking the rim and finishing

Alex Neimeth-5’7 G (Austin Elite Fire 16 U) Cedar Ridge HS

Neimeth would be on my “All Improved” team if I had one but everything was already there, she just understands what she’s working with and with a solid outside game, mid to long-range, and understanding she can take defenders, she is definitely an offensive threat but she also plays within herself

Lexi Alexander-5’10 W (Austin Elite Fire 16U) Cedar Ridge HS

Alexander and her college-ready frame just keeps elevating her game and over defenders with her shot. She is definitely strong, that’s attacking and rebounding but she also can defend and plays the passing lane

Caitlyn Panuco (DC Queens Centex) Whitney HS

Panuco has always been a gamer, she lives for the pressure and absorbs with ease because no matter how many times she gets knocked down, she comes back the same way, and her clutch “scoring” that shooting the mid to long and attacking, is among the best in Texas

R’Mani Taylor-5’6 PG (Houston Skyrise Elite Edmond)

Taylor impressed me with her ballhandling in street clothes in the 5th grade and her poise shortly after but her “no looks” on the money as well as her range somewhere around the 3 point line makes her someone you need to be on immediately

Kenna Gibson-5’8 SG (Houston Skyrise Elite Edmond)

Gibson has always shot the three-ball well yet over the years she added attacking the rim and shooting the mid-range but watching her “catch and shoot” mid to long-range as well as creating her shot under pressure shows me she keeps working

Tse Morgan-6’1 P (Somerset Hoopstarz) Somerset HS

Morgan has good size, good hands and uses good footwork and with that combination, her putting the ball in the basket is solid. She has a good frame, uses it well on both ends, and has some upside

Ainsley Pelczar-5’11 P (Journey 15U)

Pelczar is long and athletic, does a good job on the defensive end, and reacts well but on top of that, she plays the passing lane

Madelyne Furr-5’11 P (Journey 15U)

Furr is long and athletic, has good timing to alter, deflect or block shots plus she rebounds and runs the floor well

Empress Roberts (Pro Skills Austin 16U)

Roberts attacks the basket strongly, finishes with contact

Bryanna Turner (Pro Skills Austin 16U)

Turner’s speed and quick hands stood out as she’s a #sizedontmatter that can play

Ashunti Cooper (Pro Skills Austin 16U)

Cooper also falls into that #sizedontmatter as she not only saw the floor but understands how to lead her teammates on the pass

Daniya Brooks (Pro Skills Austin 16U)

Brooks has good size, so it does matter when you can play as well but she’s active on the court, plays the passing lane, and finishes strongly

Nayeli Espinoza (Texas Hoops White)

White did a good job setting defenders up with the jab as well as a slight hesitation which helped her attack the basket strongly but she also can create her jumper

Maryester Sosa-5’2 G (San Antonio Lady Hoops 2022) Edison HS

Sosa was on fire from BTA which I saw dropping from afar but not only did she shoot the 3 well she created it off the dribble plus her “catch and shoot” looked good

Sydney Dede-5’9 F (San Antonio Lady Hoops 2022) Taft HS

Dede goes right at you off the dribble, she’s athletic and can change directions without slowing down and the defensive end, she continues to bring the heat

Abigail Killeen-5’7 G (San Antonio Lady Hoops 2022) Brennan HS

Killeen gave defenders some chills and me some thrills watching her in the open court but I was overly excited to see her drop the “floata” over and over

Genesis McDonald-5’8 G (San Antonio Lady Hoops 2022) Stevens HS

McDonald was simply everywhere on defense, she reacts quickly and does things instinctively but she also can take defenders strongly and finish very good athleticism

Jada West-5’11 F (San Antonio Lady Hoops 2022) Brennan HS

West understands how to use her body inside the paint and watching her finish not only after the lick but some hard licks were nice, as well as her rebounding on both ends

Maurdaisha Powell-5’11 W (Skyrise Silver Stars) Dulles HS

Powell has gone from good to very good in a short time and what I’m seeing is far as the upside is scary. Long and athletic, attacks defends, plays passing lane but that PULL-UP JUMPER !!!!!

Mercedes Mancha-5’7 G (Skyrise Silver Stars) Alvin HS

Mancha continues to show she’s more than just a long ball shooter as she can switch to the one and run the team effectively, attack off the dribble, finish with contact  but that mid to long YES

Kerria Hamilton (AD Elite Future 16U) Cedar Ridge HS

Hamilton creates her shot and has a nice pull-up jumper yet she also can attack and come right at you but on the flip, that same energy is applied on defense

2023

Mia Galbraith (AD Elite Peterson) Lake Travis HS

Galbraith continues to show she can flat out find ways to put the ball in the basket yet she also can score in the flow but her mid to long-range is among the best in her class

Tabitha Johnson-6’3 P (DC Queens Centex) Whitney HS

Johnson has come into her own as not just a back to the basket player. Yeah she scores and uses her college-ready frame in the paint but she can face the basket and score as well

Skye Stephens-5’4 G (San Antonio Lady Hoops 2023 Holmes) Warren HS

Stephens is a speedy guard that handles the ball well under pressure and sees the floor the same way but her ballhandling enables her to attack or use the stop and pop jumper effectively

Emery Black-5’5 G (San Antonio Lady Hoops 2023 Holmes) NB Canyon HS

Black has always played within herself as well as got hers in the flow on offense yet she’s creating her shot and nailing it from the outside as well as taking defenders off the dribble

Zeadiyah Stovall-5’10 W (San Antonio Lady Hoops 2023 Holmes) Judson HS

Long and athletic is the base, remember that but she can explode to the rim and score with either hand, has a nice pull-up jumper, and plays the passing lane

Chayse Goetz-6’0 F (San Antonio Lady Hoops 2023 Holmes) NB Canyon HS

Goetz continues to impress me with her progression and has taken her game to yet another level as she is at “the magic number” as well as long and athletic. She creates her shot nicely under pressure, hits it, and plays the passing lane

Future Asevado-5’5 G (San Antonio Lady Hoops 2023 Holmes) Warren HS

Asevado has always dropped the long ball since I’ve been watching her yet she understands how to set defenders up, create off the dribble as well as attack or attack and dish

Alexandria Brownlee-5’9 F (San Antonio Lady Hoops 2023 Holmes) Wagner HS

Brownlee impresses me constantly, usually with her powerful finishes especially after contact yet she rebounds on both ends and defends but facing the basket for buckets has taken off, oh she plays the passing lane

Grace Ridoutt (San Antonio Lady Hoops 2023 Amanda) Taft HS

Ridoutt is long and athletic, has a nice pull-up jumper in traffic, and attacks the basket strong yet she also plays the passing lane well

Ariana Rodriguez (San Antonio Lady Hoops 2023 Amanda) Judson HS

Rodriguez showed she could create her shot as well as shoot the long ball consistently. Good ballhandler and sees the floor

Mercedes Perez (San Antonio Lady Hoops 2023 Amanda) Taft HS

Perez applies heat of defense, full court, half court, it doesn’t matter yet the heat gets hotter as she can attack the basket, see the floor or finish with the “floata”

Saylor Upshaw (AD Elite Future 16U) San Marcos HS

Upshaw’s athletic ability has on full display the first time at She’s Ballin Individual Showcase and she continues to show me it was no mirage. Scores and rebounds, plenty of scary upside

Reagan Harris (AD Elite Future 16U) Buda Johnson

Harris created her shot as well as attacked the basket but she also showed she could do damage that doesn’t show up on the scoresheet or stat sheet, nice upside

Kameryn Phillips-5’8 G (Houston Skyrise Cap) Humble HS

Phillips can score off the dribble or shoot the mid to long-range, I feel like a broken record because I called her a #D1Lockin elementary school but her mindset on both ends continues to leave me speechless

Keely Cummings-5’6 PG (Houston Skyrise Cap) Laporte HS

Cummings understands how to run a team, control tempo, and hit teammates for gimmes but her BB-IQ always impresses me as she understands how to create contact attacking the rim and finishing with that same contact plus, she’s clutch, especially with the long ball

Dacia Jones (Louisiana Flames) Lafayette HS

Jones athleticism is overwhelming at times, not just for me to watch but her defense and BB-IQ but seeing her play the passing lane first caught my eye as it usually led to layups but she also takes defender strong to the rack and she’s showing a nice pull-up jumper

Dalayla Blackwell (Louisiana Flames) Lafayette HS

Blackwell shows an abundance of energy on both ends and can wear both the offensive and defensive players down. She’s athletic, attacks strong, and finishes after contact

Alasja Walker (Louisiana Flames) LaGrange HS

Walker plays the passing lane very well and that’s something I love but her athleticism helps apply plenty of heat on defense. She creates her shot off the dribble and gets to the rim

Senaida Barrientos-5’7 SG (CE Elite)

Barrientos impressed before TJ Showcase and did it quickly, like her release which is also accurate from mid to long-range but she attacks strong and plays within herself, solid upside

Tyanna Hodges-5’10 PF (CE Elite)

Hodges is strong, finishes the same way, and can be powerful battling for rebounds on both ends of the court. She also defends well

2024

Bryanna Stroke-5’5 PG/SG (Lady Thunder 16U) Navasota HS

Stroke has the right last name because she definitely has one and creating her shot and dropping the long ball was nice especially when she was under pressure but her upside is OMG

Olivia Brooks-5’10 PF (Lady Thunder 16U) Madisonville HS

Brooks sheer desire has always impressed me and with her mindset, she won’t be outworked but she not only battles for boards, but she also finishes and plays the passing lane

Mya Guzman (San Antonio Lady Hoops 2023 Amanda) Stevens HS

Guzman brings something new almost every time I see her and she’s doing it playing up so with her “catch and shoot” being added to the mid to long-range, watch out

Madison Bob (Louisiana Flames) Hightower HS

Bob keeps making jumps every time I see her as well as jumpers and as she continues to show the mid to long-range, she’s understanding she can take defenders with ease

Tatyanna Bailey-5’8 G/W (AD Elite Fire 16U) Hendrickson HS

Bailey is on the verge of blowing up, she attacks the rim with power, she has a nice pull-up jumper that she creates and she defends as well as rebounds

Deyjah Ray (Houston Skyrise Eric)

Ray’s poise has been there since, well forever and not only does she play within herself but she can get hers in the flow. Let’s not get it twisted, she can take over with a blink of an eye, that jumper is hard to handle

Taler Thornton (Houston Skyrise Eric)

Thronton had on 51 with another team from Bryan when I first saw her, that’s my daughters’ number so to say I was impressed would be an understatement. Three years later, I’m overly impressed as she just finds ways to score

Brooklyn Alexander (Houston Skyrise Eric)

Alexander attacks and finishes with ease because she’s not only athletic but can create her shot and with a solid first step, she’s gone

Elaina Burns (DC Queens Centex) Midway HS

Burns has the right name because that’s what the nets will be. She has a variety of offensive tools that is somewhat scary, for defenders and her upside is even scarier

Mar’Cyah Willis (DC Queens Centex) La Vega HS

Willis athleticism and playing the passing lane impressed me years ago, she has that and more as she attacks and creates her shot under pressure, upside galore

Bailey Guzman-5’2 PG (SA Lady Hoops 2024-McKinnon)

Guzman mixes it up nicely, she sees the floor very well and she can hit teammates while she’s attacking the basket but she also has a nice pull-up jumper

Miranda Garcia-5’2 SG (SA Lady Hoops 2024-McKinnon)

Garcia was another player I caught dropping multiple threes in multiple games and she was doing it under pressure

Tyra Sotelo-5’5 SG (SA Lady Hoops 2024-McKinnon)

Sotelo sees the floor very well, on both ends, and watching her attack from everywhere along with playing the passing lane was solid

Madison McKinnon-5’7 PG/SG (SA Lady Hoops 2024-McKinnon)

McKinnon has already been LOCKED as next level but always remember, the game starts at the one and she is one of the best in her class and with that being said, she makes those around her better as she controls tempo, hits teammates with passes that aren’t there and can score mid to long or off the dribble

Lauren Danz-5’9 PF (SA Lady Hoops 2024-McKinnon)

Danz is powerful, scores with defenders hanging on her back and she rebounds powerfully on both ends. Add defends well and battles for everything

Calaysia Sevier-5’5 G (SA Lady Hoops 2024-McKinnon)

Sevier creates her shot under pressure and showed a nice pull-up as well as attacks the rim

Averi Aaron-6’0 P (SA Lady Hoops 2024-McKinnon)

Aaron may not be kin to Hank be she scored a home run because her SIZE is at “the magic number” so obviously she rebounds but she passes well form the post, she also showed she can create her shot and drop the midrange

Kemyreul Wheaton-5’8 SF (Lady Thunder 17U) Madisonville HS

Wheaton’s upside impressed me last year and she’s realizing that she can’t be stopped by anyone but herself and I’m being real. She’s athletic, can score off the dribble, has a nice midrange game, and defends and plays the passing lane but her ability to do things INSTINCTIVELT like touch passes backward, awe man, she’s on the verge
