2020 Select 40 Austin MS Tip Sheet

Tons of talent and plenty of young new faces was overwhelming as the show was taken on the road and here are some of the standouts from the middle school division

2025

Niyah Waters-5’8 G (Kelly Lane MS)

Waters is long and athletic, that’s the base I always look at to build from and she has quite a few tools to add to that like playing the passing lane, she can handle the ball after the steal for layups going coast to coast, she attacks the rim, has a smooth stop and pop jumper, she rebounds and has very good timing to block shots

Aubry Avilla-5’2 PG

Avilla showed she could create her shot as well as take defenders off the dribble but she also handles the ball in the open court and sees the floor. Another important thing she showed was how she could not only shoot but “catch and shoot”

Madison McPhail-5’5 SF (Copperas Cove)

McPhail got after out right off the bat and plays bigger than she is as she battled for loose balls and rebounds but she also showed she could attack the basket and finish strongly

Aliyahna Morris-5’3 PG

Morris is already showing highlight type stuff as she can spin on defenders going full speed and finish with good body control but she also has a nice pull-up jumper, she creates her shot under pressure and sees the floor well plus her step back three pointers and just the ability to take a game completely over so factor that with National Top 100 easily

J’Lynn Orosco-5’11 P (Hillwood MS)

Orosco is long and athletic, I call that the base and with her size and age, doing some of what she’s doing now is really impressive on what’s coming because she rebounds on both ends, plays the passing lane as is constantly moving on the court

Tatum Ott-5’5 G

Ott is heady, she’s under control and she can get hers in the flow but she also can just take things into her own hands and she showed she could could create her shot, a nice pull-up jumper, under pressure and hit it consistently

Alaysia Gude-5’7 G (La Vega MS)

Gude has a nice mix of skills to create issues, she has good size and agility and can handle the ball under pressure which enables her to take defenders coast to coast or create her shot in the half-court for the mid to long-range or just to the basket where she finishes strong after contact

Valarie Guerrero-5’0 PG

Guerrero can run the 1 right now, she sees the floor, understands how to control temp, and handles the ball well under pressure but she also does a good job at making strong passes for assists

Mariah Davis-5’8 W (Bayside Intermediate)

Davis is athletic and strong and finishes with players hanging on her but she can also attack the rim just as strong but her desire to battle just jumps out at you and watching her rebound on both ends of the court spells great upside

HaNiya Geretta-5’7 PG (Unity)

Geretta sees the floor and handles the ball well under pressure but she also can hit teammates with crisp passes through traffic. I also liked how she attacked and finished after the lick but her athleticism on defense was solid as well but her upside is like OMG, she’s so smooth on the court

Layla Tovar-5’3 PG (Holy Family)

Tovar showed some prototypical point guard qualities, understood how to run the offense, pass first, make the right decisions yet she also applied heat on defense as well as attacked the basket using her athleticism nicely

2026

Morgan Davis-5’5 G (McMillan JH)

Davis is smooth as silk, her ability to just take over a game coupled with her growth spurt spells trouble because she is becoming a “nightmare to defend” with her range, just under NBA as well as her ability to shoot the midrange but she attacks and finishes, handles the ball and sees the floor very well, understands how to just take over offensively is scary at this stage

Maya Thompson-5’8 F (Scoggins)

Thompson is long and VERY athletic, with scary upside but right now she’s showing a lot by not only rebounding but battling for everything and watching her play the passing lane, grab the steal and go coast to coast shows she can handle the ball. She also handles it in the half-court, cat attack the rim and finish strong or hit the midrange

Rieyan Desouze-5’2 (McCowan MS)

Desouze understands something very important at an early age, how to make those around her better and her ability to not only do that but just being under control running the one, either pushing it on the break or controlling the tempo, she gets the job done while she can also score, nice midrange as well as floater of attacking but her ballhandling and seeing the floor are ahead of the game

Makennah Alexis-5’6 G (Waller)

Alexis impressed me initially with her defense as well as ability to play the passing lane but she also understands how to set defenders up and did a good job attacking the basket and finishing

Alexandrea Bent-4’11 G (Trinity Spring MS)

Bent brought heat on defense almost immediately and fell into that “you won’t outwork me” category I talk about quite a bit but watching her rebound over taller opponents told me a lot about her upside and what’s coming

Mya Alston-5’6 SG (Mustang MS)

Alston has scary upside because she’s long and athletic and is already creating problems with her attacking and finishing but she plays the passing lane well, another huge plus and she defends as well as rebounds. Watching her create her shot was another big plus

Ananni Morris-5’4 PG

Morris attacks strongly and finishes as well but she also battles for everything, rebounds, loose balls, it doesn’t matter but she also understands how to use her body and get positioning

Ahnna Breiner-5’3 G/F (Cedar Park MS)

Breiner does a good job of playing the passing lane and once again, at this stage, that’s huge especially when you combine it with her handling that ball well but she also attacks the basket in the half-court set and finishes strongly

Tatum Burson-4’11

Burson gave a good first impression, first of all she goes hard, either on the offensive or defensive end and she will battle to the end but her athletic ability combined with all of the other stuff mentioned is a great foundation, especially when you add she can attack and finish

Trinity Jackson-5’8 G/F (Cedar Park MS)

Jackson just goes hard and can punish on both ends, her body is strong, she’s mobile enough to attack from the wing or just do damage in the post but her upside and desire will help elevate her game as she continues to add

Taryn Smith-5’7 SF (Pearson Ranch)

Smith is athletic and you can see her desire almost immediately as she fights for loose balls as well as rebounds, on both ends of the court yet she also can take defenders off the dribble and finish strong

Endia Stigall-5’3 G (Barton MS)

Stigall has an impressive first step that sets up many things like attacking the rim for layups but she can also create her shot under pressure and her athleticism helps on both ends as she can apply pressure defensively

Aliyah Duval-5’7 G

Duval showed me the crossover early as well as a nice change of direction which enables her to create open court problems trying to defend her but the problems don’t stop there because she creates her shot and takes defenders with ease plus she ahs a pull-up jumper that is consistent

Jayla Green-5’8 F (Cen-Tex)

Green uses her strength and athleticism very well as she battled for rebounds on both ends constantly plus she plays the passing lane and can finish after the steal or finish in the half-court set off the dribble, good upside

Rakaia Walker-5’10 F

Walker is long and athletic, yes, I know that’s the base but you need to know she can attack from from everywhere and finish after contact plus she plays the passing lane, as well as defends baseline to baseline. Solid rebounder on both ends, put-backs galore yet she has nice jumper to go with all of that

2027

Ameriah Moore-5’5 G (Union Grover)

Moore is athletic, she rebounds and also does a good job defending and this includes playing the passing lane but she can create her shot, take defenders to the rim hard and finish strongly

Saania Khawaja-5’5 G

Khawaja already understands how to create her shot and she can do it under pressure, very good quality especially at her age but she’s athletic and can also take defenders off the dribble for baskets

Emily Roman-5’5 PG

Roman sees the floor and handles the ball under pressure but watching her poise at this stage is just as important because she doesn’t get flustered and can run a team which is even more important so with her upside and age, I know what’s in the future

Sydney Durrah

Durrah already can handle the ball and make passes going full speed yet her ability to see the court and make those strong passes that lead to assists go well with her attacking the basket and finishing

Brooklyn Eubanks (Trinity Episcopal)

Eubanks is a small guard yet she’s long and athletic so it’s no telling where that growth spurt off the court will have her but the growth spurt on the court is very promising as she already can attack the basket and finish or show a pull-up jumper, right now

2028

Kamryn Fox-5’0 PG

Fox was one of the, if not the youngest campers in attendance yet you would have never known as she created her shot and took the older players off the dribble as well as showed the midrange, very good upside
