2020 All Eyez On Me HS Session 1
KENNA GIBSON
Round Rock TEXAS- Another talented All Eyez On Me Individual Showcase had me watching some stars of tomorrow up close as well as some talented players that I had already seen but keep in mind what I’m always looking for is progression and here are the high school standouts from session 1
2021
Shanna Petty-5’9 (Westside HS)
Petty has elevated her game each year, she always plays within herself and recently I saw her defense take off but oh my, her offensive game was through the roof as she scored every way I can imagine, mid to long, attacking or just defying gravity and doing it power and finesse
Caitlyn Burke-6’0 (Stony Point HS)
Burke is long and athletic and understood how to use her athleticism as she was active on defense in both the drills as well as the 5 on 5 games. She reacts well, understands how and when to switch plus she did a good job attacking the rim on offense
Deaija Brown-6’0 (Ellison HS)
Brown showed she could create her shot and score on the offensive end early during the drills, that didn’t change once the games began but what did change was how she used her strength and rebounded powerfully on both ends of the court as well as played physical defense
Gabrielle Owens-5’11 (George Ranch)
Owens is one of the most underrated players in the state, she does so many things that just don’t show up in the box as well as the stat sheet but she makes things happen and change the momentum b=in numerous ways but she can score with her back to the basket as well as facing it, rebounds and defends
Ravyn Ellis-5’8 (Bellaire HS)
Ellis not only rebounds well from the guard spot, she does it against taller players but her pull-up jumper from mid to long-range is a consistent weapon as she creates either nicely and watching her elevate on the pull-up or blow by defenders was solid
Skyler Dunford-5’1 (Sunnybrook Christian Academy)
Dunford has been impressive at every event I’ve caught her and she falls into that size don’t matter hashtag I use because she can play. Does a good job creating her shot under pressure, handles the ball under pressure, sees the floor and can flat out shoot it from deep
Taylor Jarrels-5’8 (Lamar Consolidated)
Jarrels has taken her game to another level just like she takes defenders off the dribble, smooth and quickly but watching her set them up has been a treat because her first step starts the process and with her ability to flat out shoot the ball from anywhere, she was hard to handle
Weade Adeleke-6’0 (Vista Ridge HS)
Adeleke is probably one of the most underrated “magic number” players in the state but she brings that throwback mentality of “you won’t outwork me” every time I see her and watching her finish with players hanging on her has been a norm plus she rebounds and defends
Ashley Ngene-6’0 (Cinco Ranch HS)
Ngene made her first tip sheet from me before high school and watching her elevate her game over the years has been fulfilling for me because I knew she was going to create problems. She’s powerful, yet under control and can score in droves on the inside plus she rebounds, on both ends and defends
ARIANA SAZO
2022
Emerson Davis
Davis was impressive during the skills and drills and kept that momentum going into the 5 on 5 sessions but her heady play simply stood out no matter what the setting was because she comprehends things so well, plays within herself, and understands how to get hers in the flow. She creates her shot and can nail it
Ariana Sazo-5’8 (Kingwood Park HS)
Sazo got after it hard right off the top during the skills session so I was glued to her every move early and she dropped several bombshells, including the long ball. She understands how to create her shot as well as when to take it and showed shed could score in the flow plus she did it in both sessions
Alex Neimeth-5’8 (Cedar Ridge HS)
Neimeth turned a corner at the Katy Classic last season and she’s still driving as she continues to add more to her all-around game but she rebounds, defends and plays within herself which is a huge plus these days but her offense, shooting and attacking, has taken off to another level
Kaila Hamilton (Hendrickson)
Hamilton uses her body nicely on both ends of the court, understands positioning for rebounds, again on both ends, and does a good job defending in the paint or stepping out of it. She finishes strongly and showed her soft touch facing the basket
Kenna Gibson-5’6 (Clear Springs)
Gibson has been on fire of late and watching her shoot from past NBA range has been something to see yet she also showed more of the attacking and midrange, not to mention finishing strong after contact. Ballhandling and seeing the floor, as well as defending were all popping
Lexi Alexander-6’0 (Cedar Ridge HS)
Alexander can bring it either way on offense, either powerfully attacking the basket with players hanging on her or facing it for the mid to long-range. Shot is smooth and consistent, she also rebounds on both ends and with her size and desire, she’s hard to handle
Taylor Cross (Episcopal HS)
Cross showed me so much including her size didn’t matter because she just brought it and kept bringing it but her seeing the floor caught my eye initially then she showed the mid to long-range as well as attacking off the dribble but she creates her shot nicely and has a pull-up in transition
Tse Morgan-6’0 (Somerset HS)
Morgan impressed me earlier in the week at the Alamo City Girls Combine yet showed even more including hands and footwork. Her size is imposing, she finishes after contact, she rebounds on both ends and runs the floor and even showed a step back
TATYANNA BAILEY & JAELYNN MORRISON
2023
Aaliyah Solis (Lamar Consolidated HS)
Solis got things going handling the ball strong during the drills and had no problem during the 1 on 1 yet that didn’t change during the 5 on 5 as she created her shot, saw the floor and hit defenders on the money but she also showed she could score and she created her shot, even added the step back
Jaelyn Morrison-5’9 (JM Hanks HS)
Morrison understands how to get to the rim and uses her athleticism nicely at doing so. She sets the defense up and just takes them but that works well because she can also hit the outside shot by just elevating over defenders. Good defender and rebounder
Payton Tatum –5’9 (Lampass HS)
Tatum with the pull-up kept echoing in my head but she gets it, why change it when they aren’t stopping it and her go-to shot definitely goes in as she creates it being guarded tightly and watching her shot it from various midrange angles made her hard to handle
Mollie Sossaman
Sossaman did a good job in all of the skills stations especially the one on one where I first saw she could create her shot under pressure plus her athleticism enables her to get to the rim and her strength is definitely an asset as she finishes after contact
Reagan Harris-5’11 (Johnson HS Buda)
Harris has a strong body so her rebounding on both ends wasn’t surprising, nor her finishing but she created her shot to score facing the basket, she scored off the dribble and she even handled the ball under pressure not to leave out “saw the floor”
Viviana Moreno-5’4 (Brandeis)
Moreno made her first tip sheet at this event last season and another during the TJ Showcase but the talented guard’s progression left me somewhat speechless because her range is deeper, her catching and shooting is quicker and she’s also handling the ball even stronger under pressure but seeing the floor with crisp passes has taken off
Saylor Upshaw-5’10 (San Marcos HS)
Upshaw is long and athletic, that’s the base, but she’s also explosive off the dribble and watching her attack earlier in the season left me somewhat speechless because she does it instinctively. She finishes strong, after contact, creates her shot and has nice consistent pull-up jumper
2024
Tatyanna Bailey-5’9 (Hendrickson HS)
Bailey left a lasting first impression, that’s always good and where is she is now is solid, she’s long and athletic, creates her shot, elevates on it and can take defenders off the dribble with either hand and score the same way but her upside is what has me even more impressed because she played up and did the same thing against seasoned high school players and please remember “it’s not what you do, it’s who you do it against”
