2019 Clutch City Classic
BLESSING OKOH ( TEXAS INFERNO)
CYPRESS, TEXAS- Prime Time’s Clutch City Classic went smoothly this past weekend and the highlights still embedded my mind are roaring loudly like Amanda Turpin’s shooting exhibitions in back to back triple overtime games including a half-court shot you can find on Twitter, btw, follow me on there and Instagram @girlzprepreport but here are some of the standouts from the event
Blessing Okoh (Texas Inferno) somewhere around 6’0, she shows she can start a break, going coast to coast after a rebound or stopping one, outracing opponents to the end to block shots. She can take defenders off the dribble as well as spot up and shoot the long ball
Savanna Velasquez (LMBA) speedy guard that just keeps coming at you. Gets to the basket with a nice first step and her athleticism is there to give you acrobatic finishes, not to mention she can create and shoot from everywhere
Kassie Chavez (SETX 10th grade) prototype PG that is precise and understands how to get teammates in the mix. Making good decisions is a plus, she adds other pluses by scoring and handling the ball under pressure
Minnie England (Lady Thunder 8th grade) rebounded powerfully throughout event, on both ends and showed she could score multiple ways
Ava Pointer (ASA) love her progression and since I’ve been watching her for 5 years, I know she puts in the work and it was on display as she showed plenty of fire and made a flurry of baskets to ignite a run but her comprehension and desire has always been solid
Jena Warden (SETX 6th grade) good size, body and does things instinctively is what I caught in a couple of minutes and when she added her shot to the equation, I just smh because her upside is pretty darn high as she knows how to put the ball in the basket
Skylar Kutra (3220) steady throughout the event, made plays and shot the ball well from multiple spots. Defended as well as rebounded
Alex Smith (365 Elite) heady guard that gets it as well as gives it and by that, I mean to the right person at the right time. She also attacks the basket well but I love watching players play the passing lane and she was on it
Ashton Reynolds (SETX 8th grade) her knowledge of the game is ahead of her years and what I’m really impressed with is she doesn’t get flustered no matter what you send at her. A variety of offensive weapons but she is a pass first PG, UNLESS ………
Alysson Ferguson (Houston Thunder) I’m betting on her upside because she’s long and athletic and gets it now. Don’t get me wrong, she scores, rebounds and defends well now but her ceiling is high
Kemyreal Wheaton (Lady Thunder 9th grade) she’s playing 2 years up which is scary, not for me, defenders because she has an abundance of offensive skills at her disposal and she does things instinctively, reading the defense, anticipating the pass, whatever
Madison Marcorro (3220 Elite Campbell) big plays every time I looked up came from this young lady as she showed a knack for igniting her squad. Scores from outside or off the dribble
Randniza Bryant (Fastbreak USA) strong and powerful describes not only her body but the way she plays because she’s hard to handle on the inside and I mean both ends. Battles for rebounds, finishes with contact
Kayla Merchant (SETX 11/12th grade) another throwback player that just won’t be outplayed by taller opponents. She blocks out, she battles, she fights for everything, every game and she can score, I’m going see WOODVILLE next season for certain, plenty of talent
Amada Turpin (3220 Elite Ary) I remember writing about this young lady 5 years ago, using the search bar on both my blog and website kind of tells you I know what’s coming so all I can say is I was RIGHT yet again
