2018 Tyrone Johnson Tip Sheet
McKenna Worrell (Texas Elite Stars Bibbs)
ROUND ROCK-Texas- The Tyrone Johnson Showcase hosted by Austin Elite continues to be a must stop for me as I get a look at many players from the area I may not see and if you follow me, you know that I know that talent is everywhere, especially throughout the Austin Elite organization so with that being said, I’ll drop a Tip Sheet on their players from multiple teams a little later. Here are some of the standouts from the HS Division playing in the event, if you don’t follow me on social media, Girlz Prep Report, you might miss some others
Ashlon Jackson (HTX 2019) tip sheet waiting to happen is what I called her an era ago but as she gets ready to enter HS, watch out. She’s around the magic number, can play all five positions, well, scores Tupac (How Do You Want It) and she already has a college frame, oh did I mention I said #BCSLock a while back
Bria McClure (San Antonia Finest) I have brain freezes about this young lady constantly and I guess some of it is because she’s a highlight waiting to happen. She does things effortlessly and in the flow yet can do it explosively. Body control and can score an abundant amount of ways
Gracelynn Alvarez (Shooting Starz) I knew she was going to do some damage when she made it to HS three years ago and I guess opening career with 40 sort of tore it up. Catch and shoot from deep, stop and pop from mid but she’s attacking and finishing strong after contact. Still has upside
Rori Harmon (Team Xpress Rebels) Mark Harmon (NCIS) is one of my faves but when the acronym associated with Rori means No Court Is Safe because she can go completely off at the drop of a dime, which she dishes with regularity. I always say, you go from good to great when you make those around you better, she’s a #BCSLock
Alayna Washington (Waco Elite 2020) her class is deep, I called it a monster class 6 or 7 years ago and seeing her a couple of years ago had me beaming because the class is solid. Athletic guard that scores and defends, she’s gotten stronger, finishes better and has nice pull-up
Janiyah Bennett (DFW Jeff) long and athletic, defends to no end, I mean that as she applies so much pressure I needed to get some water. She actually enjoys to defend, a lost art, plays the passing lane and can take defenders off of the dribble
Shira Patton (Texas Elite 832) dial her area code as Patton is pulling some General George type stuff of late as she has been stepping into a leadership role. Amazing athlete, that jumper is smooth and accurate; she creates her shot and does something I really like, hangs in the air for baskets, under control
Carrington Jones (SA Legends Black) watching their coaches grow up and become stars sort of brought me back a bit but Jones was just doing a lot of everything offensively. She’s physical off the dribble, takes the lick and finishes and her catch and shoot from distance was on point
Alleah Dallas (Houstonians) college ready body, over the magic number, athletic and fluid so what’s up with her. Well she rebounds on both ends, finishes well and also faces the basket for buckets. I guess her ball handling in the open court as well as defending baseline to baseline adds to her equation
Riyah Francis (Texas Elite 2020) continues to progress, already over the magic number, that’s 6’0 and really getting it but even more importantly, she’s giving it and with abundance. Rebounds, runs the floor, finishes and defending in the paint as well as outside the paint
Leyla Boutte (Texas Elite Alpha Bounce) long and athletic is always helpful for a variety of reasons like playing passing lane, she does that as well as defending, she does that too. Sets defenders up on other end as she got to the basket time and time again, still has upside
Kayla Brigance (Houston Elite White) to see someone do a pick and roll effectively over and over and finish the same way definitely pleased me as I went Back To The Future. Loved her work ethic and the power she showed inside as she finished multiple times with players hanging on her
McKenna Worrell (Texas Elite Stars Bibbs) been watching her play since she entered MS, always was athletic and played hard so the other things she needed to add are definitely there. Takes defenders off the dribble, can shoot it from all over, picture playing around the world, and is handling the ball under pressure
TORI WOLFE (FURY 2021)
Amyah Johnson (Fort Worth Lady Hornets Gold) one of the most explosive guards in the event, initials AJ reminds me of Foyt because her speed and ability to navigate through traffic, with the ball and drop the pass off, on the money, is always great to see. Scores from outside and plays defense
Emily Peebles (San Antonio Islanders) size and strength always is a draw and this team has several but the improvement from this young lady was really nice to see. Hands and footwork were clicking, finishing consistently on put backs, ran floor and rebounded on both ends
Kristen Beasley (Houston Lady Hoops Elite) when I say “attacks relentlessly” think Beasley. She’s long and athletic, understands how to create her shot in traffic, nice fakes enable her to go by or pull-up which is a work of art as she elevates over defenders with ease
Kendall Dominique (San Antonio Legends Red) when you play on your toes, several good things can happen and this young lady was anticipating everything. Playing the passing lane gets you easy basket opportunities on the other end, good athleticism and attacks well off the dribble
Cy’Maya Colquitt (Houston Lady Dominators) physical and doesn’t mind contact in fact she scores after taking it going to the basket. Always rebounded and defended, midrange game has taken off and she was pretty hard to handle at the event. Still has upside
Mayanna Little (Waco Lady Panthers) ain’t nothing small about her game, I guess instant offense would be a nice phrase because turn your head and an instant later she’s scored multiple times. Speed is good and it’s even better when you’re under control handling the ball, gets to the basket effortlessly, and scores from all over
Toni Wolfe (Fury 2021) I’m not even going “Who’s Afraid Of Virginia Wolfe” but you better be afraid of this young lady when she crosses half court. Plenty of shooters in Fury pipeline, Wolfe’s range is just flowing as she can get it down with players on her or not, one of the best long ball exhibitions at the event, and there were many
Sydney Blakely (Sophia Young Elite Black
Brianna Fokum (Katy Rebels-Poth) love her physicality and she loves it to because she battles after everything, off the glass or on the floor, she’s in it. Applies heat on defense and scored well around the rim. Also can ignite and finish on the break, probably running the floor has something to do with it
Lauryn Small (HTX 2019) one of many talented plyers on the HTX squad, Small is just so powerful on both ends, either getting to the basket and finishing or the pressure she applies on defense. Continues to add more to her game and when you play as hard as she does, it will be noticed
Lillian Stewart (Fury Orange) this young lady is definitely a blast from the past, well for me as she’s 6’2 and can shoot the long ball. Also can score inside, nice footwork but with that size and ability to shoot it like she did was something to see. Rebounds and runs the floor
Alicia Blanton (Team Xpress) explosive freshman season in high school was no surprise to me nor the fact that she continues to blow up. First step enables her to either go by defenders to the basket or take the jumper which is consistent from midrange and beyond
Sydney Blakely (Sophia Young Elite Black) explosive guard that can take over a game offensively sort of sums it up. One of the best offensive players in the event, she scores from everywhere on the court plus she’s fast, with the ball, and even though she is hard to defend, she sees the floor well and sets teammates up for “gimmes”
Daila Allen (Texas Elite Stars Burroughs) one of the most improved players in the area, she has grown, stands 6’1, both on and off the court. Showing more athleticism and is scoring in the paint and facing the basket plus her perimeter defense has improved. Long arms helps her block or alter shots, rebounds well
Tristin Keller (Rising Stars) always remember the game starts at the one and this “one” was playing up as she’s about to enter HS but her poise and ability to control the team caught my eye immediately. She controls the tempo, makes the right pass and can score, very nice midrange
