2018 GPR Under The Radar #HOT Tip Sheet
RAVEN ADAMS
FRISCO, TEXAS- The phrase “Under The Radar” has so many meanings depending on who you listen to but one thing I’ve learned over the years is that there are players all across the country capable of playing at the next level that colleges may not see, for whatever reasons, so that well known theory spread over the years of “they will find you” is simply that, something spread because that is not always the case as well as another which makes absolutely no sense “ there’s something for everyone” and a little simple math tells you that, but what do I know other than this stuff is political, has always been political and since social media is playing an even larger role, it always will be political however I always give honest assessments of players and a few of the Under The Radar players I’m following were in Frisco for the Heart of Texas Showcase and to say I was pleased with their continued progression would be an understatement
DARBY HURLEY
2019
Claire Hale -5’9 guard (San Antonio Islanders) her shooting is what caught my eye a couple of years ago and she’s extended her range, creates well off the dribble and has a nice stop and pop but it doesn’t stop there as she attacks strong and finishes with either hand, showed me some EURO’s and just has a nice arsenal of offensive weapons, not to mention she rebounds on both ends
Reagan Montgomery-5’7 PG (DFW Hawks 2019) college coaches love smart and steady point guards for a variety of reasons and over the years Montgomery has always impressed me with her knowledge of the game, the ability to run a team and set teammates up for easy baskets. She continues to show that she can take over offensively when needed, nice mid to long range and finishes strong
Cassidy Howard-5’3 PG (Texas Elite 832) one of the most explosive scorers in the area, off the dribble or from outside the gym, Howard has always had a knack for putting the ball in the basket playing the 2 however at #HOT she was definitely that as she also showed she could direct a team and control the tempo which gives her more marketability for the next level
Andreea Mancha-5’7 guard (HTX Fire 2019) I don’t care what the setting is, this young lady can score under pressure and she relishes the challenge, whether it’s going off against a #1 seed in HS playoffs or going off in front of double digit college coaches at a showcase, she can shoot that ball quickly and accurately. Adding the fact that she can also score off the dribble from the wing is another plus
Darby Hurley-5’7 guard (Aggieland Sports Alliance) been watching this young lady for a very long time and every season, she’s added something to her game. Her BB-IQ was always there, she kept improving defense and shooting and now she’s not only a shooter but a scorer and at she showed she could do that many different ways. Loving the floater and finishing with contact
DASHA MACMILLAN
2020
Marchelle Willis -5’3 PG (Texas Elite Adidas Stars Bibbs) always has been able to shoot the ball and over the years, not only has her range expanded but the ability to catch and shoot the basketball has her amongst the top in the area. She loves the ball under pressure and delivers, has an explosive first step, sees the floot and threads the needle nicely
Dasha Macmillan-6’1 forward (Higher Goals Watts) forward with guard skills and dropping 30 plus in front of college coaches will bring offers in droves and she picked some up after the event. I can’t stress the importance of comprehension, she knows how to set defenders up, scores inside, off the dribble mid and long range plus she rebounds and with her size, there is no telling how high she goes
Geonna Waddell-5’5 PG (Cy Fair Premier Gray) I love intensity and “Gi Gi” has always brought that as she falls into the “never takes a play-off” category so baseline to baseline defense, diving on the floor for loose balls are just things that come naturally. The progression on offense is showing, nice pull-up and first step couples with speed enables her to get my defenders
PEYTON ANDREWS
2021
Peyton Andrews-5’10 guard (Banshees Future) there’s an old saying I started years ago and that’s college coaches love big guards that can shoot and as a sixth grader I watched her drop five or six in a row and haven’t taken my eyes off of her. She’s expanded her game, scorers regularly in the paint, rebounds on both ends and handles the ball in the open court plus she can create off the dribble under pressure
Raven Adams-5’2 PG (Texas Elite Adidas Stars Bibbs) as a 4th grader, her poise simply left me speechless but over the years she has given me so much to talk and write about and trust me, she’s another I was right about. Unlimited range, knows how to run a team and control tempo plus just showed she could go completely off against wall to wall college coaches which created plenty of buzz
CARRIGAN HILL
2022
Mercedes Mancha -5’5 guard (HTX Fire 2022) she’ll join her sister Andreea in HS next season which means double long ball threats. I can’t explain how much I enjoy watching young players that can handle pressure at early ages, she can’t be flustered and she delivers offensively in the clutch and her comprehension of the game is ahead of the game
Iyanna McCown-5’6 PG (Lady Warriors White) another young lady that falls into the ” time flies” category and playing it back in my head, well search bar, I knew I was watching a player when she was in the 3rd grade but fast forward to now, that poise and control under pressure while playing up and running a team will be huge entering HS as she too gets it
Carrigan Hill-5’6 PG (Oklahoma Team Pink Phenoms 2022) one of my sayings is “the game, has and will, always start at the one” and this young lady is one of the best I’ve seen in her class. She always handled pressure, even as a 5th grader but she loves it and delivers, video of game winner will be on blog. Creates nicely for herself and teammates, range from another zip code and just “gets it”
Kolby Davis-5’6 guard (HTX Fire 2022) one of those players whose name I didn’t know and got up to find out. She has a strong body as well as an explosive first step which helps to enable her to finish after contact but she mixes it up nicely with a solid midrange as well as accurate long ball shooting. Huge upside, rebounds strong and defends
