2018 Aggieland Invitational Tip Sheet
MIKAYLA WOODS (attacking) Kurstyn Harden (defending)
COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS- I chose to do something different than attending the Metroplex Tournaments during the holidays because one I’ve always focused on was players that go unnoticed for whatever reasons and when I started saying talent is everywhere over a decade ago, I truly meant it. Guess what, it is and I actually know what I’m talking about when I say something although much of what I’ve said over the years has been proven right, including social media has done more to hurt the game than help it, my trip to College Station gave me a chance to check out an abundance of new faces that you may or not have heard of them. I broke down some of the Bryan/College Station area kids whom I’ve been watching like forever since were 10 or younger here but here are some of the standouts from the event
2019
Haley Wesley-forward (Spring HS) strong body, rebounds on both ends and can finish inside after contact but her accuracy from bta has to be one of the highest in the state at just under 50&
Mikayla Woods-guard (Hendrickson) I love explosive guards and her first step can be devastating plus she can shoot as in “catch and shoot” quickly and efficiently from everyhwere
Rukiah Utley-forward (Huntsville) legitimately 6’0 combined with long wing span and good athleticism makes her a threat on both ends and the eerie part is she has untapped upside
Macy Isles-post (Clear Creek) dives on floor for loose balls and that’s one of the many things she does that doesn’t show up on scoresheet, but she rebounds and finishes
Allie Byrd-wing (Kingwood Park) dominates from the 3-4 positions and just makes team go, long athletic, scores many ways, defends, alters and or block shots, rebounds on both ends
Madison Griffon-point guard (Copperas Cove) one of the best at threading the needle on the money at the event. Scores and handles the ball effortlessly, just bring so much energy
Tiffany Mack-post (Cypress Springs) long, athletic, runs the floor, can score in the paint or facing the basket, wingspan creates issues, huge upside at 6’0
Kurstyn Harden-post (Lufkin) powerful in the paint, scoring and rebounding, and soft touch from the outside. Runs the floor well, defends inside and on perimeter
Alecia Whyte-guard (Oak Ridge) I guess “scoring machine” would be appropriate because she can fill it up many ways and relishes contact which makes her an “and one” waiting to happen
KIONCE WOODS
2020
Dasha Macmillan-forward (Grapevine) undoubtedly one of the best from Texas in her class, she just makes it look easy. Scores in the flow, inside to long range, and fills up stat sheet
Mia Rivers-point guard (College Station) steady throughout event ran the team efficiently and when needed, showed she could take things over. Nice mid to long range and attacked well
Mariya Scott-point guard (A&M Consolidated) I love progression especially when she impressed me a couple of years ago when I first saw her. Handles and gives pressure, scores many ways
Kionce Woods-forward (Greenhill) ultra-athletic, jumps out of gym, excellent time, ran floor after igniting break with rebound over and over to finish on other end, she ain’t done by any means
2021
Ashkey Mgene-post (Seven Lakes) strong finisher after contact, rebounds and runs floor well. Good defense on inside, battled for everything
Yasmine Green-guard (Mexia) nice mixture of “knowing how to score” in her repertoire. Mid to long range was nice, attacking and finishing with contact was even nicer
