2016 Texas Elite Phenoms
DAMAYA TELEMAQUE & MYA HOLINGSHED
HOUSTON, Texas- I finally had a chance to catch the Texas Elite Phenoms top team in full force and the former Lady Houston Phenoms squad immediately caught my attention I guess five years ago with numerous young players that I said would be legitimate D1 prospects by the time they graduated, I was right about that as usual and this year’s version has some of the same type of players I knew would be magical back in middle school
I’ll start with the Suber twins, Kiana and Briana cause float like a butterfly, sting link a bee, this dynamic duo is something to see. I had to throw that out since I’m feeling a little something about “The Champ” but these two young ladies helped lead their Rudder HS team to state as sophomores and almost pulled it off against last year. Watching them glide through the air or throwing alley-oops to one another, I actually get upset I’m not videoing some of their highlights waiting to happen but I’ll just tape it off the television when they’re playing at one of the numerous colleges calling their phones
6’4 Mya Hollingshed’s game has taken off, you can catch her on the Tip Sheet coming up later and their other 6’4 bookend, 2020 Precious Johnson’s upside is eerie. Already mobile and with a college ready body, she will do nothing but get better and her ceiling is unlimited. 6’5 Robyn Onuarah is long and has the ability to alter and deflect many shots. She showed me more things this time around, ran the floor and finished well plus played good defense inside and on the perimeter. Eryka Sydney is filling in with the team, I touted her as a legitimate D1 prospect in middle school and after reconsidering her decision to play at Prairie View, she’ll keep her acrobatics and long range game in town at San Jac before she heads back
Talk about long range game, how about Alanna Spencer “for hire”, one of a handful of young ladies I’ve watched drop four three’s in under minute during a game. She’s more poised and under control, defends well plus scored off the dribble. Symone Carmenear just amazes me with her athleticism and body control. Someone said gravity can’t be defied, well I really think that should be amended with several players including her. She’s powerful going to the basket or can elevate over defenders with ease but she has several tools to work with as well as 6’1 Marissa Hart who continues to elevate her game weekly
Damaya Telemaque blew me away in middle school at a camp where she gave some of the area’s top 2016 guards “the business” so I knew she was legit just from that. How legit she will become hasn’t been told but she’s already solidified the fact that she’ll have countless D1 offers because the game starts at the one and she’s definitely one of the top point guards in Texas, High BB-IQ, can take over a game when needed, defends, handles the ball under pressure, she’s only a 2018. Another talented ’18 filled in on the top squad this weekend, Amaya Armstrong just came off a Tip Sheet but she’s showing me various weapons on the offensive ends and with her strength and agility………
