2014 PTN Final 4 Tip Sheet 11/12 grade
CARROLTON, Texas- As great as the championships were last season and the one before at Prime Time Nationals, I truly believe this season was better as far as teams, players and even more importantly, competitiveness as I saw shifts going back and forth, up and down and before you know it, only one was left to be crowned. The Dallas Stars defeated a tough Texas Elite Hampton squad in one semifinal game, Texas Elite Hampton would up finishing third, while Team Texas Stastny got to the finals in a nail biter against Prodigy Club before defeating the Stars in another equally close game to win the championship. All four teams were not only intense but had quality players and here is my first Tip Sheet on some of them
2015
Chelsea Warren-6’0 forward (Dallas Stars-Red Oak HS)- I’ve always called this young lady a beast and the numerous colleges that came to see her know it as well. Warren simply won’t let you out work her and her ability to face the basket and score to go along with what she does in the paint is exactly why I called her a can’t miss a long time ago
Alexus Gilbert-5’7 guard (Dallas Stars-Bryan Adams HS)-You can’t teach speed and heart, Gilbert has both, plus she can play. Off the dribble she’s a nightmare to defend and in the open court, you can almost forget about it. She gets where she wants when she wants plus that pull-up is a monster
KJ Stastny-5’10 guard/forward (Team Texas Stastny-Celina HS)-I never really got to see Stastny play however on opening day, I truly got it. She spins so much defenders can become hypnotized but she’s strong, physical and can score from just about anywhere. She is truly a throwback player that was simply a joy to watch
Raquel Ross-5’9 forward/post (Team Texas Stastny-Frisco Lonestar HS)- Yeah I see the height but don’t go by that, Ross can play multiple position effectively. She’s powerful and finishes strong and with her strength, she can get her shot off against bigger players with ease. It also helps that she can elevate and drill the midrange
Grace Pospichal-5’4 guard (Team Texas Stastny-Hebron HS)-I don’t care what other people like, flashy guards that can play always holds my attention. You can’t press her, she has amazing handles and can see the floor but better yet, she reads the defense like an All-Pro Cornerback. Oh yeah, she can drain it from NBA range
Addison Garcia-5’11 forward (Texas Elite Hampton-Prestonwood Christian Academy HS)-I’ve seen this young lady do damage many times over the past two seasons and what’s special about her is that she doesn’t mind the contact, at least her ability to finish afterwards shows that. Midrange is nice as well
Gabriella Nelson-5’11 post (Texas Elite Hampton-Birdville HS)- I didn’t see much of the team prior to Sunday however when I did see them, Nelson was putting the ball in the basket. On Sunday, nothing changed as she was virtually unstoppable inside against everyone. She also has the ability to hit the 10-15 footer
Brittany Smith-6’0 forward (Prodigy Club-John Paul II HS)-One of several players at the event that simply wouldn’t let you outwork them. She’s strong and goes after everything in the paint on both ends and her relentless mentality was refreshing to see
2016
Jalah Walton-6’2 post (Dallas Stars-Lincoln HS)- The more I watch her, the more I’m seeing Mid to BCS and when you have a player this size that can rebound and start the break and outrun everyone to finish it, you better pay attention. She’s tough inside, strong and can finish
2017
Sharmaine Harper-5’6 guard-Prodigy Club-Lewisville HS)- Harper was one of many talented young players playing in the top division and her ability to not only handle the ball but get to the rim and score was huge
