MONET JONES

DUNCANVILLE, Texas-The Bob Knight Fieldhouse was lined up wall to wall with some very talented middle school players from all over the country to observe and absorb all they could at the John Lucas 60/60 Combine. With over 160 players in attendance, over 60 females, I had a chance to get a jump start on who will be the names on many college coaches short lists when it comes scholarship time and there were an abundance of players who not only have the ability to play at the next level, but several have a shot at the next level and beyond. I usually pick eight to ten players, some were already locks before the camp started because I already what they’re going to bring each and every time I watch them so I decided on 13 players. After further review, that number has increased to 14 and even after that, I have notes on everyone and with this type of talent, even more names will be thrown at you so get ready for that but until then, here you go

2018

Zarielle Green-5’11 forward-Duncanville TX-Green is an amazing player already who astounds you with her knack for hitting not only what appear to be impossible shots but the drive she has to elevate her game. Handling the ball and draining the outside shot continue to get better and so does her statuss as one of the top players in the country

Charli Collier-6’3 forward-Crosby TX-Collier is simply a beast in the paint, few have answers for her and I’m talking high school players. Her desire to face the basket and play continues to improve as she can nail the mid rather easily plus her ball handling has taken a major turn upwards and I’m talking with pressure on her

Taylor Sutton-5’5 guard-Hampton GA-One word to describe Sutton would be electrifying but let me add another, legit. In the open court, she’s one of the best I’ve seen in her class but she plays both ends and truly understands the game. She can play either the one or two; she can shoot the three or get the other four involved

Tyler Collins-5’5 guard-Fayetville GA-What first impressed me with Collins was her ability to get to the rim and finish with contact, then her ability to see the floor and as day one went on, her outside shooting but what really sealed everything was her defense, against the guys. She along with Green, Sutton and Kelly went right at the guys and did well

Raija Todd-5’6 guard-Bryant AR-Stars galore by this young ladies name because whether it was in the skills or drills she was on her game. She was also one to watch in the open court but when she started draining threes from everywhere, along with showing her step back to go along with an abundance of offensive gifts, I was afraid my pen would run out of ink

Monet Jones-6’3  forward-Missouri City TX-Me and Miss Jones go back a few years  and when she was 10, I knew this young lady would be special. She’s grown even more, so has her game and she loves the contact under the basket but can also step outside and hit the long ones. Play too close and get took, well off the dribble. Here’s a key, she still hasn’t reached her potential

Brooklyn Mitchell-5’6 guard-New Orleans LA-I saw her play a few weeks ago and she blew me away but after this weekend,  I’m still flying almost like she does to the basket. Very acrobatic and smart, finishes extremely well however you want it. Can score so many ways it’s eerie but even after all that, once she realizes how good she is, there’s no telling how high she can go

Lexie Pritchard-5’9 guard-West Linn OR-This young lady does something that not many can do and that’s find ways to put the ball in the basket. Left or right handed in the lane, off balance, floater, mid-range, long range, home on the range, whatever, but she’s deceptive and can get defenders leaning. There are many shooters but this young lady falls in the scorer’s category

Tayce Wedin-5’8 guard-She plays bigger than her height and often found her going against much taller players. During the skill work, she caught me with the first step which can be a killer along with nailing it on “The Gun”. Good handle, can create her shot in traffic but importantly make it, especially in the mid-range area

Rayven Patin-5’5 guard-Harvey LA- Patin falls into a lot of categories at the one but the one that will impress college coaches is that she thinks the game, controls the tempo and knows how to get her teammates involved, oh yeah, makes few mistakes. I saw that a few weeks ago but she handles the ball extremely well and can score if she has to

2018 Sutton Kelly 6060

TAYLOR SUTTON & DEJA KELLY

2019

Zoe Young-5’7 guard-Urbandale IA- College coaches love players that don’t take plays off, so do I, especially when they’re vocal even on the bench supporting her teammates. This young lady can go, she goes hard and I mean on both ends. On opening day, she got wherever she wanted, whenever she wanted for baskets and on day two, she drained shots from everywhere

Kierra Adams-5’11 forward-Vancouver WA-Big upside on this young lady who stands one inch away from the magic number. She has a definite advantage because she can do guard like things at her size. She’s smooth taking defenders off the dribble, can defend on the perimeter and face the basket and score. Did well in the paint on both ends against the older players

Amaya Aldridge-5’1 guard-Beaverton OR-  Aldridge is one of those “size doesn’t matter” players I speak frequently of and basically that’s a player that just gets it done no matter what. Stereotypes often control certain things but this young lady can go. She handles the pressure with ease, well she also finishes the same way. On defense, she can be a nightmare

2020

Deja Kelly-5’6 guard-San Antonio TX-You would think I’d run out of things to say about the “Tip Sheet Queen” yet she still finds ways to show me she’s adding to her arsenal. Sometimes it comes to easy for great players in the making, especially a t a young age and she does her best against older players. Against the guys, she was simply fearless which speaks volumes since they were 2 and 3 years older. Do I have your attention now? BCS!!!
