2013 Texas Invitational Tip Sheet
HOSEY & DAVENPORT battling for ball
PASADENA, Texas- Big time players step up in big time situations and my Texas Invitational Tip Sheet has some of the top stars from the event that did just that. Keep in mind that I called a lot of these players years ago and nothing pleases me more that to see the players excel and to also say I was correct. I picked eight players from the Gold semifinals for the Tip Sheet and if you’re a GPR subscriber, the Who’s Hot list will have some names you don’t want to miss
2014
Ariel Atkins-5’10 guard-Duncanville HS-The Texas signee is why I’m penciling in a couple of Final Four appearances at least during her career as a Longhorn. Let me reiterate she’s one of the best players I’ve ever seen, she’s vocal and her ability to takes games completely over is second to her making her teammates better
Tasia Foman-5’6 guard-Duncanville HS-Another future Longhorn has amazing speed and athleticism and her energy trickles over to her teammates. During the Texas Invitational, she did whatever was need to help her team not only get to the finals but win it all. Defense is second to none; neither is her heart and passion
Tiara Davenport-5’10 forward-Duncanville HS- The Louisiana Tech signee was the glue for the Pantherettes during the Texas Invitational. She wasn’t the leading scorer or rebounder in neither the event nor the top assister however she was among the top in all three categories. To say she was the “Silent Assassin” is simply an understatement
Brianna Turner-6’3 whatever-Manvel- I list her as whatever simply because she played all five positions and did them quite well. She passes from the perimeter like a guard and her midrange was on during the event, In the paint, she’s almost automatic and she’s a triple double waiting to happen, well maybe quadruple
Rangie Bessard-6’0 forward-Manvel- Minnesota landed a gusher from Texas and Bessard just keeps adding to her game. In the paint, she was simply unstoppable and just for fun, she stepped out and dropped three’s at over a 50% clip during the event including four in the first half of one game
Brooke McCarty-5’5 guard-Clear Springs-When she was in elementary school, I called her “The Chosen One” and some thought I was crazy because of her size. She averaged in the high twenties for the event and put on a show against Bellaire dropping 18 in the first quarter. She joins the duo above at Texas next year, now you see why I’m thinking Final Four
TASIA FOMAN
2015
Erica Ogwumike-5’10 guard- Cy Woods-She’s long and can elevate on her shot which she can also get off against anyone. A couple of 30 point games in the Texas Invitational were only overshadowed by her game saving block against Desoto. Erica has learned she can take over games against just about anyone
Jordan Hosey-6’1 forward-Manvel- Hosey is the fourth player going to Texas, get it, F-4. She’s electrifying in the open court and at times appears ready to cuff and throw down. She defended well and scored when needed and her, Bessard and Turner form what I’m thinking is the best frontcourt in the country
