2013 Cy Fair Invitational HS Tip Sheet

2013 CFI Underwood

The 2013 Cy Fair Invitational continued to show me players I may not have seen but even better, the countless ones that I have seen who continue to get better. Several new pieces to puzzles were on hand to bolster teams rosters and they had an opportunity to show they belonged not to mention the countless younger players playing against older ones while solidifying they are legit

2014

TiAira Pitts-6’1 guard/forward-AD Elite

Pitts was an absolute joy to watch as she was simply unstoppable during the two games I had a chance to watch her. She can shoot it, put it on the floor and take it to the basket or post up smaller players in the paint. Even more importantly is the fact that she’s unselfish and not only plays good defense but is a battler on the glass and I’m talking both ends

2013 CFI Neal

Monisha Neal-5’7 guard-Team Ichiban

Sometimes you can get lost playing with star players however Neal showed her star was shining as well as she handled the ball, handled the pressure and handled her business on both offense and defense. What excited me even more was her super athleticism and ability to consistently knock down the three

Christyal Holloway-5’10 guard-DFW Elite T-Jack

Big guards are on the wish list for many college coaches and when you happen to have size, length and athleticism, you will wind up on many short lists. I guess I left out she can play but not only can she play, she has quite an offensive artillery to choose from. Once she gets going, she’s hard to handle especially from long distance

2015

Kennedy Leaonard-5’8 guard-Cy Fair Nike Nationals

From the moment I saw her release a 25 footer at the Sandra Meadows Classic her freshman year, I knew this kid was a player. That one didn’t go in but it was how she reacted that told me she had a little something going on. That also happened to be one of the few she missed in that event and nothing has changed as she came out smoking on day one and didn’t cool off

Erin DeGrate-6’4 post-United Elite Black

Whatever you want in a post is rolled up into this young lady. College ready body, strong, has good moves in the paint and to top that off she has a nice touch and she also showed she could put it on the floor. Time and time again she was challenged but her excellent created many blocks which ignited fast break opportunities for her team

2013 CFI Ramirez

2016

Jada Underwood-5’11 guard-Heroes Elite

Underwood is another young lady that impressed me for the first time at the SMC and the most amazing thing is she’s got even better since December. Add her to the list of big guards colleges will be craving as she showed the ability to play at least three next level positions, maybe four before it’s all said and done. This Underwood is no deviled ham, she’s the full course

Amber Ramirez-5’8 guard-San Antonio Finest

Playing on a team with another young lady I called a “can’t miss” in middle school, Ramirez also showed me a couple of years ago I better keep an eye on her. Not only is she exciting, she lives for “the moment” and when you’re young and not afraid to take the big shot, you have the makings of something special. She can score from anywhere; it would be wise not to lose her on defense as she gives a new meaning to Amber alert

2017

Megan Valdez-5’6 guard-San Antonio Hoyas

Megan is a perfect example of my overused saying “it’s not what you do, it’s who you do it against”. If she played her age, her three point shooting alone would have her near 30 or more every game but when she steps on the court against the older girls, her mindset never changes. I questioned her speed and stamina, not a question anymore as this young lady has added even more to her game

Laura Dalton-6’2 post-DFW Elite Swift

My first look at Dalton during the March Fest had me thinking this kid has good size and is coachable as she absorbed whatever she was told. After watching her in the Cy Fair Invitational, she showed me even more and that was she wouldn’t be bullied and fought for every rebound. She has good skills and whatever she’s lacking, her work ethic tells me it won’t be long before she too arrives
