Rumble In The Bluff

THE RUMBLE

rumble sam desoto

As I sit and watch The Maggie Dixon Classic, GIG EM, I figured I would go ahead and give a shout out to Coach Korey Arnold of Sam Houston High in Lake Charles, LA and thank him for inviting me to cover the Rumble In The Bluff. Initially I wanted to head out on Friday, just to see Westbury Christian go up against Pflugerville. WC is ranked in the Top 5 nationally while The Fluge is ranked in TABC’s Top 20 for the state. WC won the game by a narrow margin after trailing late in the final quarter and that is a game I would have loved to see because to be honest with you, WC hasn’t really been challenged too much.

That will end soon enough when they travel to Duncanville for the Sandra Meadows Classic and face off against THESA and Moriah Jefferson, so you will have two of the top point guards in the game going against each other, WC has Amber Orrange. I did see Pflugerville play on Saturday against Parkway and was impressed with their athleticism. Texas signee Nneka Enemkpali is awesome and I see the improvement in the young ladies game since I saw her in the State Final Four as a sophomore.

The first game on Saturday featured host team Sam Houston against N Desoto, no relation to the one in Texas and it was a pretty good game for the first half until Sam Houston star Taylor Landry went to work. The Bronco player led all scorers with 30 point, while adding 15 rebounds. She scored on a variety of ways and can surely play at the next level. Teamed with Katie De Witt, they ran the high-low several times to perfection, De Witt added 11 points and point guard Haley Cook kept everything under control with 10 points and six assists. North Desoto’s Jata Hall was also impressive as she led the Griffins with 14 points. A couple of deep threes early by Jessica Bradford kept them close early but the Broncos Landry would not be denied.
