Spring Branch Championship

CY "AIN’T" FALLIN YET

I love coming up with these names and phrases off the top of my head, usually it may be over a few other heads, but after a little time, everything "FALLS" into place. The top team in the state is sending messages special delivery, so please, take notice on where one of the roads to Austin travels through. Today in the Spring Branch ISD Invitational, Cy Falls put on one of the most impressive back to back performances I have seen on a Saturday this season, first beating Barbers Hill, one of the top 4A schools in the state by over twenty in the semis, then going up by over twenty five against one of last year’s Final Four teams from Region 3, Westside, in the championship game.

I call this team “The Bomb Squad”, sometimes I get fly and use “Da Bomb Squad” but today, they were dropping them from any and everywhere. Let me set the stage for you, in the first quarter of the championship game, the Eagles dropped six three pointers, three from Kit Metoyer, two from Shernise Roberson and one from Macy Moore on their way to a 24-7 . The Westside defense came to life in the second quarter and cooled Cy Falls down as Sedalia Ellis had the lone three pointer, however Larissa Scott scored most of their ten points, with six, as halftime ended 34-15. Erin Luton and Tiffany Davis were scoring the bulk of the Wolves points as they tried to keep their team in striking distance.

The third quarter started off almost like the first, as Metoyer, Moore and Lakendria Scott all nailed  threes, their tenth for the game coming from five different players and Falls went in the home stretch leading 53-28. Rachel Cumbo came alive in the last quarter as she and Davis put the Wolves on their backs as they outscored Falls 23-12 in the final quarter but Falls hangs on to win 65-51, including another three from Metoyer, the teams eleventh for the game. After scoring 7 points in the first half, Davis dropped 16 in the second half, including three of her own three pointers, leading all scorers with 23 points. For Cy Falls, Spring Branch Invitational Tournament MVP Metoyer scored 19 points, including 5 three pointers, Moore added 12, while Robertson and Scott each finished with 8 points.
