Wildcats Win Big

I’ll skip the first round tournament games today to catch a match-up that has been long anticipated in the private sector so to speak. Ranked #3 in the country, Westbury Christian and their star studded team featuring the Amazing Amber Orrange and the kid everyone wants, freshman Brianna Turner, travel to play against St Pius tonight at 6:30.

TURNER

This will probably be the only competitive game Westbury Christian has left in the area and one knock against them is they aren’t playing anyone. Well they’ve knocked off a Regional Final 4 from last season and they’ve also beaten a Top 5 ranked state team in Georgetown, led by LSU bound Krystal Forthan, a player Hoopgurlz.com has ranked at #5. The will also be tested when they travel to Lake Charles, LA for the Rumble in the Bluff Tournament, December 16-18 and the Sandra Meadows Classic, December 28-30 in Duncanville TX. Brackets for both tournaments can be found under the "EVENTS" tab.

St Pius is no pushover. Several people knock the private schools and have this and that to say however my take is a parent has the right to do what they think is best for their child. I will have a complete rundown on tonight’s game right here, so stay tuned.

WESTBURY CHRISTIAN (74) ST. PIUS (47)

Danielle Parks three pointer opened the scoring for St Pius, giving them a 3-2 lead, however that was the first and only lead for the Panthers as Westbury Christian looked invincible. After the Parks bucket, the Wildcats went on a 12-0 run and finished the quarter leading 20-9 and extended the lead more in the second quarter cruising to a 42-21 halftime lead. This was not just the Brianna Turner and Amber Orrange show for the first half, WC had a balanced scoring attack with Orrange and Fallon Ellis leading the way with 8 each, Catlin Diaz had 7 and Turner 6. The third quarter was no different as WC kept the heat on blew the game wide open and cruised to victory in the final quarter.

In the final minutes of the game, the gym went silent as Orrange took a nasty spill, which wound up to only be cramps and while we're on the subject of Orrange, this young lady continues to amaze me. I mentioned Peoples as another great guard who will leave her mark in the area, well so will Amber. Maybe not the same type of scorer as some of the other guards, however this kid has the best change of direction in traffic I have ever seen and get's to the goal as good as anyone else that has come through the city. Orrange finished the game with 13, Diaz 11, Ellis 9, Ayramis Glenn 8 and Turner led the Wildcats in scoring with 14. Parks led all scorers with 15 for the Panthers while Alexis Chandler chipped in 10 for the Panthers. St. Pius is a better team than the one that lost tonight, remember this has been a crazy season so far.
