Cy Ranch captures 2014 FBISD Tournament

2014 Cy Ranch FBISD champs

SUGARLAND, Texas- For the third straight year, I’ve left the FBISD Tournament after the semifinals thinking I would predict the outcome and for the third straight year, I’ve been incorrect but the Cy Ranch Mustangs simply know how to get it done and after watching them defeat a very talented Hightower squad in the semis, they knocked off an explosive Dekaney squad in the finals, both teams were ranked and still are in my Top 10 and with Cy Ranch pulling that feat off, they moved up to #6 because it’s not what you do, it’s who you do it against applied so many ways. Deauzya Richards and Arianna Whitfield were in double figures for the Mustangs both gangs, Richards dropped almost 40 earlier in the tournament and 29 in that win over Hightower but the role players have been getting it done and the emergence of freshman D’Asia Collins, who scored the first 5 against Hightower to set the tone, at the point has added a boost.

 2014 Dekaney FBISD

Another surge comes from Cydney Rivera, also a freshman, who earlier this season had a 20 plus game but just different players getting it done. Taylor Coleman has brought defense and rebounding into the equation, Rivera and Coleman’s older sisters, Cienna (Louisiana Lafayette) and Sydney (TCU), also played for Cy Ranch and are now getting it done in college. Long ball threat Alyssa Guerrero will be vital on how far this team goes and had Rachel Tapps not suffered an injury this season, there’s no telling what this team could have done. Dekaney was led by Lauren Grigsby (Rice) who scored double figures in both games but they got offense from several others including Casey Belt in the championship and Kene Hamilton and Jaelyn Richard-Harris. Cases could be made for both Grigsby and Harris as preseason picks, Lauren can be unstoppable at times while Harris is one of if not the best PURE point guard in the area as she’s sort of the old school “pass first” type yet she gets everyone involved. Jasmine Smith and Keishawna Scott play the part of their silent assassins but this rematch happens again today at 1pm at Cy Ranch
